Re: Frisian FLAG 2012
Gents,
Any idea what the airfield of departure was for the Finnish Hornets?
I presume they arrived directly from Rissala?
Regards,
Hans

Re: Frisian FLAG 2012
Hallo,
Groet,
Coen

Re: Frisian FLAG 2012
SVFW399 is now inbound to Leeuwarden. Possibly a replacement for 39260 which went tech this morning?
Inbound the TRAs at this time is AWACS NATO05.

Tomorrow, winds from the south are predicted, later going to south-south/east. I assume runway 06 will be used? This would mean the Jelsum side right? I would like to drive to the right place immediately in the morning traffic.

DEAR AIRCRAFTPHOTOGRAPHERS AND ENTHOUSIASTS PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB OVER THE FENCES AND INTO THE PASTURES. UNTIL NOW THE FARMERS SHOW TOLERANCE, BUT THIS CAN CHANGE AND THEN A FORBIDDEN AREA! ESPECIALLY FOR THE FRISIAN FLAG EXERCISE.
THIS MORNING I WITNESSED SOME PEOPLE CLIMBING A FENCH AND WALK INTO THE PASTURES!!!!! NOT TO ANY PURPOSE.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY AIRCRAFTENTHOUSIAST!!!!
THE SPOTTERHILL AND THE AERA WEST OF IT IS A VERY NICE SPOT AND FREE TO GO.
FINALLY, PLEASE DO NOT PLACE ANY KIND OF STAIRS TO THE BASEFENCES!
ENJOY FRISIAN FLAG WITH LOTS OF FRIENDLY PILOTS AND UNITS WHO EVEN COME IN THE EARLY HOURS TO THE FENCES TO SELL FF 2012 STUFF

(Slechts 1 keer, 20 jaar geleden)
-----------------------------------
Thanks for the info. But sorry, my question was incorrect. I was confused with 06 and 09.
My question is whether there are people who want to share their experience about photographing, from the spottershill, aircrafts that lands on the 24 side and leave the runway onto the taxiways on the 06 side. (If this is the case on the day I visited Leeuwarden)
And how likely is it that 09-27 is used? Because I have little or no experience with photography / spotting at Leeuwarden. (Only 1 time, 20 years ago)
Alvast bedankt.
Groet,
Coen.

Sigh...Of course I meant the 24 side (Jelsum) when the wind is south-south/east?geert99 wrote:Tomorrow, winds from the south are predicted, later going to south-south/east. Re: Frisian FLAG 2012
When the wind is from the (south)east, odds are that the 06 is in use. That would mean take-off and landing from the west (the spottershill) and thus the Marssum-side. With southerly winds its a different matter, as the 06-24 runs SW-NE. In that case, they might opt for 24. Who knows, if the winds shift, they might even switch runways...
And as for the question concerning the use of the spotters hill for landing shots when 24 is in use: IMHO, that won't do much good unless you have a lot of mm's (>500). With 24 in use the Jelsum side is undoubtedly the best option to catch all the traffic.

Re: Frisian FLAG 2012
Apologies beforehand for this shameless website plug, but http://www.gvr-aviation.nl/portfolio/tr ... index.html gives an overview of landing at 24 at the Jelsum side. All were made with 300mm (*1.3 cropfactor) in the shoulder of the road ("in de berm") outside the field. Pretty good landingshots can be made. The landing shots were made in 2008.camel1 wrote:nilsko wrote:See: http://www.scramble.nl/airports/publish/ehlw.htm

Re: Frisian FLAG 2012
Hi,
Does anyone know if the spotters hill is any good for departures from 24? Do they keep them low enough to make a decent shot? I'm planning to go there on friday if the weather permits and I want to make some images with different angles, so I'm thinking of going to the 06-side in the morning and the 24-side in the afternoon.
TIA,
Matthijs

Re: Frisian FLAG 2012
Hi Matthijs, generally speaking, it is not a "good" departure location. The aircraft are relatively high (and the Typhoons may be sky-high...); furthermore, due to noise abatement procedures they bank to the right (so, away from you) immediately when they get airborne. So, unless you're interested in something really different (undersides), this is not the place to be.. On the other hand, they would be sky-high on the other side (24/Jelsum-side) as well when taking off from the 06 (although they don't bank there).
