OK, the Madrid Barajas December 2011 passenger numbers have arrived!

- MAD Dec 2011 = 3.626.513 pax +0.7% This is a positive score for MAD.

This means that MAD has recorded the following PAX numbers for the full year 2011:

- MAD Jan.-Dec. 2011 = 49.662.512 pax -0.4%

AMS has not yet released its data for December 2011, so we need to wait and see before we can make a comparison.

However AMS will need at least +7% growth in December to pass MAD airport for the full year 2011. This is well possible as Dec 2010 saw a lot of cancelled flights due to bad winter weather in 2010. As this did NOT happen in December 2011, AMS may well - just as FRA airport saw passengers increase 12.2% in December 2011 - see a relatively big increase in pax numbers in December 2011.

Officially it remains wait and see, even though SPL management announced the news that the airport had reclaimed the 4th airport position in Europe again with 49.800.000 pax, in their 3rd January 2012 New Year's speech.

Amsterdam Schiphol has released the traffic data for the year 2011:

- December PAX: 3.540.966 +9.2%
- December MOV: 31.558 +10.7%
- December FREIGHT: 125.315 tons -0.3%

- YEAR 2011 - PAX: 49.755.252 +10% (NEW record)
- YEAR 2011 - MOV: 420.249 +8.8% (record 2007 = 435.000)
- YEAR 2011 - FREIGHT: 1.523.806 +0.8% (record 2007 = 1.610.000)

SO it is official now....AMS has replaced MAD as 4th airport in Europe for number of PAX handled per year.
