AirAsia plans to buy additional 100 A320neo: source
KUALA LUMPUR, July 6, 2011 (AFP) - Southeast Asia's largest budget carrier AirAsia said Wednesday that it plans to buy an additional 100 Airbus A320neo passenger jets on top of the 200 it ordered last month.

The announcement comes two weeks after AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes broke aviation records by putting in a record order for 200 of the medium-haul planes -- with a catalogue price of $18.2 billion -- at the Paris Air Show.

The order was the largest single order for Airbus in terms of numbers of aircraft.

"In addition to the 200 which is a firm order, AirAsia is putting an option to order another 100 A320neo aircraft. Our target is to have 500 planes," a top official familiar with the deal told AFP on condition of anonymity.

"I don't think we will have funding problems to acquire 300 aircraft (costing about $27 billion)."

Fernandes has said AirAsia plans to expand its fleet of jets from 93 to around 500 by 2020 to meet surging demand for air travel across the booming continent.

Besides the 200 Airbus A320neo it ordered last month, it has another 75 Airbus aircraft already in the pipeline.

AirAsia has a fleet of 93 aircraft mainly A320s serving about 160 routes in Asia and more than 520 flights daily from hubs in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. It will take delivery of another seven this year.

Parent company AMR of American Airlines (AA/AAL) has announced what is described as the largest aircraft order in history. Firm orders total 460, and there are also 465 options/purchase rights.
The deal consists of:

100 B737NGs
100 B737RS - re-engined B737NG that is yet to be launched.
130 A320 family
130 A320neo family

Included in the deal are options and purchase rights for 100 additional B737s (NG or RS), and 365 A320 family aircraft!!

Press Release

This is a massive order, especially since it will mean Airbus aircraft back in the AA fleet.

It is a bit sketchy, but I do not believe the 460 orders mentioned are exactly firm. At least not all. AA only (and I quote) "intends to order 100 of Boeing's expected new evolution of the 737NG", which does not seem to be firm to me. And since this plane is not yet launched, I doubt it can be firm.

Not all of the aircraft are intended for Jetstar. A part of this commitment is intended for the new premium subsidary that Qantas plans to set up in South-east Asia.

ATR has a good week.

TRIP from Brazil has signed an order for 18 ATR-72-600s, 9 of these will come directly from the manufacturer and 9 will be leased from leasing companies ALC and GECAS. The first aircraft will be delivered in October. This order will also make TRIP the largest ATR user in the world with 51 aircraft. TRIP also holds options for 22 more ATR-72-600s.

UNI Air from Taiwan has signed an order for 10 ATR-72-600s. The ATRs will replace the Q300s UNI Air has now.
