Coldwater,
Let me ask you a question, do you care about the quality of your images? or do you really don't mind what they look like?
Cheers

Certainly I care to make beautiful photos but it must not become a nightmare. When I take a picture I see with my eyes and shot to document an event and it must be nice for myself. end each of us can say that and then 'good or bad. No problemwild weasel wrote:Coldwater,

if we speak of the scanner and I agree that my is'very old or I use it badly.
However, one must look at the end of those that are published and where they were made, when they were made, in which nation, under what conditions, etc. etc. Finally, and very 'easy to criticize others, we must first do it yourself!
With all this I have no grudge with anybody but I pretend the correctness and that the people are much more 'careful judging and sentencing categorically ugly or disgusting in the work of others when they have no way to do it and when no one has ever done with them.

Re: AVIANO A day with Falcons
Okay, you made your point....
But let me explain why i'm asking you this question. All the guys (or girls) here on scramble are only meaning to help you in creating better images. I can imagine some frustrations from those who have been watching the images of this report, cause the opportunity you get here, is a pretty rear one, so i know i lot of us who are "critizising" your work, only meaning to say, a very nice opportunity, take the best out of it while you have the change and come home with some damn fine images. and let's be honest, the quality really isn't that good.........on the other hand, i have no clue what your photography experience is, what kind of gear you use, if you do post processing etc. etc.
Let's try to be a little more constructive, and don't take it to personal. For instance, Dennis really has some good points and is actually motivating the points of critisism. When i look at your pictures and take the opportunity in consideration, the only thing that comes to my mind is........what a waste of this opportunity. But then again, i don't know anything about your skills, gear, post processing, etc. etc.
Maybe it would be good for us if you tell us a little bit about your situation, so we can all value it the right way
Cheers

Some pictures are (very) good, but advice given here is for free, well-meant and with just a bit of work the pictures will even be better (the horizon I would work on first).

Gent's,
Some people just can't help it being rude, their first intention is to help the photographer by providing the "points of improvements" but by just telling whats wrong without any tips or tricks to improve nobody gets a better photographer!
The camera used is a Fuji A205S, came on the market in 2003 and has a 2 megapix sensor. Most likely a camera you can't compare with the other equipment currently used by members of this forum.
And gentleman don't get me wrong, at some other forums like UKAR all the shots are "Great, Fantastic, Stunning and Top Shots" even when it's ==censored==, not my cup of tea either but please if we comment somebody's work then at least bring up some points of improvement!
And Coldwater, if you have questions about photography or photo equipment just drop me a email, and I will do my best to help you out!
Grtz,
Marcel

Re: AVIANO A day with Falcons
Well Marcel,
Like is said before, a few points of improvement are lack of sharpness, lack of leveled horizons and not too well exposed. To me that is pretty constructive....your quote here: at least bring up some points of improvement!............is given allready.........there are several ways to improve sharpness, exosure etc. etc. he just needs to ask.......but first of all, it is a matter of getting on speaking terms......you only get that when you are open for such things, and that is what i'm missing a little bit here.....
Your suggestion to get a PM is a good one. On the other hand, make this an open discussion or what ever you want to name it, move this topic into the photography box, and everybody can learn from this. After all, that's what forum's are for right? In the end, the only thing everybody wants here, is to help each other out, some being a little bit more tactical then others.
my 2 cents

Menno,
Maybe just maybe I missed some lines but by just mentioning the lack of sharpness, lack of leveled horizons and so on nobody gets better, explaining more about shutter speed, aperture and the level function of photoshop would.

Re: AVIANO A day with Falcons
It indeed is a shame from the standpoint of a photographer that Coldwater's images sometimes turn out the way they do. I get the feeling, though, that this is turning into a discussion between somebody who collects images of aircraft in exotic places (Albania!) and photographers who want to show the best they can do, which includes post processing.
Nothing wrong with both sides, however. The first group of people, and I know several of them, will not waste in their opinion a second of time in any sort of improvement, the aircraft has already been added to their collection anyway so why bother. Some even think it should not be done at all because one couldn't do anything post processing wise in the days of slide films.
Being 61 years of age however should not be show stopper. Last night, the Groningen local TV had an item about a gentleman who wanted to get his driver's license. He was 85 years old.... I sincererely hope that the last day I learn something new will be the day I die, but that's me.
I hope Coldwater will show us more of his work, and who knows, he gets interested in the how and why of post processing. Many of us will be willing to help him out.
Hans.

Coldwater,
Thank you for sharing your pictures.
Especially the maintenance hanger was nice to see, the only spot on base, I have never been able to have acces in, during my past few visits at Aviano.
Did you have access to the triple 555 Shelter Area?
Probably not, I guess!
Watch out publishing pictures like the first one, 555th. FS Area, some Americans overthere don´t like that, better remove it!
Can get your escort-sponser on base in problems!

And that's exactly the reason why i was asking for some more info...........so that those who are willing to help, can get a little further in helping him out, but of course, if he is not in to that, he's all right to do so......i'll rest my case.Warthog 71 wrote:Menno,
