my take on RIAT Saturday
Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

Re: my take on RIAT Saturday
unfortunately, the A-10 demo lasted for only aprox. 5 minutes,
spoke to the pilot later, and he tolt me that the flight control backup system had problems,
it can fly perfectly without, but with a high dynamic performance, they might need it!
so that's why the demo got canceled after 5 minutes..

Kill markings. Shows how many German planes the aircraft has shot down, guessing these are fictitious thoughTorchus wrote:Very nice pictures, but what's with the swastikas on #9 ?

Re: my take on RIAT Saturday
Indeed, around March 1945, P-51D 44-73419 went (by ship) to the 8th Air Force. Before it was active over Germany, not many Luftwaffe aircraft were left. The history of the aircraft is nicely documented here: http://www.ferociousfrankie.com/history.htmlAgg wrote:Kill markings. Re: my take on RIAT Saturday
About the P-51...took this from their website; (http://www.ferociousfrankie.com)
OFMC acquired the aircraft early in 1999 and it now carries the highly distinguishing colours of Wallace E. Hopkins, as “Ferocious Frankie”, named in honour of his wife Frankie, coded B7 H of the 374th Fighter Squadron, 361st Fighter Group. Wallace Hopkins was born in Washington, Georgia and flew a total of 76 combat missions with the 361st where he flew as Operations Officer. He was an ACE credited with 8 victories and 1.5 damaged. His decorations include the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross both with Oak Leaf Clusters and the French Croix de Guerre, one of four awarded to members of the 361st.
