Istanbul harbour 2011
Seen by many (although some put more of an effort into it than others ) in the days preceding Izmir Airshow, Spain's carrier "Juan Carlos" visited the port of Istanbul. Seen on deck were a Sea King (apparently coded "07", what would make it SH-3H HS.9-07/01-507 of Eslla 005) and an unknown Hughes 369M (HS.13-*/01-6** of Eslla 006). Did anyone get the Hughes please?

Re: Istanbul harbour 2011
Frank,
I've been looking all day for photo's made of and on the carrier during the Istanbul visit. It got a lot of media attention (the Turkish navy is in the market for a ship like this) but very few if any good pics of the two helicopters on deck. This one is the best I found yet:
A bit more closer would have been nice. But from my point of view it seems the Hughes has "15" on the nose, which would make sense: given the first character is clear it's either 10, 12 or 15. So my guess is HS.13-14 / 01-615, which would make me a happy spotter.
And is it wishfull thinking or is there really "0 7" on the nose of that SH-3 ?
Cheers,
Marco

Okay,
Forget about my previous post. Two minutes searching later and what about this:
Above all doubt HS.13-14 / 01-615.
So not "07" after all but "08" (left of the sliding door)! I'd say HS.9-08 / 01-508. I'm happy with that one too
More photos, including what was below deck: http://www.trmilitary.com/forum/viewtop ... =4&t=28109
Cheers,

Re: Istanbul harbour 2011
We had a look at the boat on the morning of Friday 3-6, and not only the above two choppers were on deck but also a Harrier and another Sea King. Both were being brought outside when we were watching, so great timing. The AV-8 was (VA.1B)-27/(01-9)17. I couldn't see the full code, but the number 17 was clearly visible on the tail. The Sea King was read off by both myself and Frank Mink as coded 01-505, which should make it HS.9-05. Problem is that the Scramble database gives this as written off! Is it possible that this one has been rebuilt?

On May 30 I noted the Sea King 01-509 below deck. It is the HS.9-09 according to the Scramble database.
