That's indeed the aircraft in question.
I was a bit confused, as it seems the guys / girls at the Yanks museum don't know the difference between a F-4C and a F-4J/S, as they mention it to be a F-4J/S on their website

And they're not the only ones, as it seems, since the pic on airliners is not an F-4C, or it must be a variant that misses the thingy under the nose, which can be seen in the pic below:Flanker wrote:That's indeed the aircraft in question.

It does occur to me the F-4 in the museum is indeed an F-4J or S or someone has been using a saw to remove the thingy.
BTW: If Airliners.net is correct after all, then there's your identity too, but I don't believe it for the the time being.

Re: info required on F-4 @ Yanks Air Museum, Chino Ca
I found some info about Yanks having both a 'F-4J on display' and a 'F-4C in storage' somewhere in 2005.
should that info be still correct, then indeed the a/c on the picture at Airliners is an unknown F-4J and not a C with the thingy cut away (in that case : anybody for the buno ?)
then the additional question, is the C still there ?
is that then maybe the '64-0761' as now added to the a/c in the Airliners picture ?
Want to ask the Museum directly, but they don't have e-mail (apparently, or at least not mentioned on their site).
Anybody that can help me with an e-mail address ?

Yes, 64-0761 is stored in a compound on the other side of the airfield, seen myself in mar10.Flanker wrote:then the additional question, is the C still there ?

Re: info required on F-4 @ Yanks Air Museum, Chino Ca
Hi,
This is one saga that will never go away I think. The aircraft is a F-4S from my own photos and generally accepted to be one - that is different intake, slats and engines from the early F-4s. Their other F-4s are in a store by the ATC I believe.
Last year (7-4-10) I could find nothing on the aircraft bar the 416263 on the rear lower fuselage and 62 on the nose. And we right up against it. So after working on it for weeks, I wrote to the Yanks Museum but did not get a reply so I phoned them. I managed to speak to the Curator who was helpful this way. This aircraft came to Yanks from NADEP North Island via a film studio who used in a backdrop - this is why it has spurious pilot names on it. No papers came with the aircraft and they do not know what they would do with it. She said that it had been crawled over by many many people trying to identify the aircraft and she did say the construction number plate had also been taken off some time before they got it. The probability was that they would just scrap it as the other F-4C 64-0761 is in much better condition apparently I was told. The serials considered as eligible for this aircraft are indeed 157282 but also 153835, 157243 and 157290. Despite a huge amount of research I can find nothing relating to 416263 or 62 or where these four aircraft eventually ended up.
I have written this one off as a complete identification and comes under the category of the one that got away. If you have dounts yourself, suggest speaking to them as they are very helpful but you won't get any further than Yanks themselves have got.
