Together with good friend Goldenace007 it was time to do a weekendbreak in Madrid. Iberia had a nice 99 euro-offer so Saturday 9th April (1230-1830lt) and Sunday 10th April (1000-1645lt) were spent on the little mound at Madrid-Barajas. The larger mound is now full of fences and not accessible anymore.
Hotel was taken in Barajas (Best Western, room for 60 euro incl breakfast). Nice area with enough bars/restaurants/Burger King very close by.
From the hotel to the Barajas-Metro station is about 300m walking. From the metrostation to the little mound is about 800m. We found this site for a good desciption how to go to the little mound:
http://www.eddl-spotter.de/lemd-madrid-barajas.html
Weather was awesome, 25-27C with sunny skies and light wind. Be sure to take enough water with you as it can be hot sometimes (and be careful with the sun).
The main purpose was to fleet Iberia but also see the South-American aircraft that visit here.
Almost all Iberia A319/320/321/CRJ200/900/1000/ATR72's park at T4 (western terminal). Air Europa (B737/E195/A330) and Spanair (MD80/A320) park at T1/T2 and all Iberia A340-300/600's park at T3 where also the OneWorld members usually go. Between 1200-1330lt all A340's leave and this is very impressive to see. All 5 CRJ1000's were seen as well as all CRJ900's except for two. EasyJet (11 different A319/day) and Ryanair (15 different B737/day) are frequent as well.
MAD has 4 runways (33L/33R and 36L/36R). Normal procedure is landing on 33's, taking off 36's or landing on 18's and take off on 15's. From the mound most can be monitored.
