Fotopic website down ?

Does anyone know why the Fotopic website (http://www.fotopic.net) is down ?

My website (http://hoebers.fotopic.net) is down also .... :(

HistoryOn 2 August 1999, the website named photos.jml.net began as a private collection of photographs of a British couple, Joel and Nicky Rowbottom, and by February 2001, the system was transferred to fotopic.net and made available to the public. It was a particularly popular amongst early adopters of photo sharing technology, featuring in press coverage of this trend [1], and popular throughout the transport enthusiast community.

In May 2008, Fotopic.net was acquired by Snappy Designs Ltd, a group of private investment individuals in partnership with ANY-Web Group [2]. There were a number of complaints from users subsequent to this transition.

Around March 8, 2011, the servers were taken offline. There was been speculation on various online discussion groups[3], as well as Twitter, that Fotopic, and its ultimate owner, may have ceased trading. It was subsequently announced on March 31, 2011, that Snappy Designs Ltd owners of Fotopic.net had been placed into administration [4] leaving the future of the site contents uncertain.

Does anyone know a good alternative (free photo website except Photobucket etc.) ?

Misschien een rare vraag, maar waarom neem je geen eigen website ? Voor een paar tientjes per jaar heb je je eigen domein en ruimte genoeg om al je foto's op te zetten. Daarnaast kun je er een website kwijt en krijg je je eigen email adressen. Zijn het de kosten die je weerhouden of is er iets anders ?

Voornamelijk het gebrek aan kennis. Bij Fotopic maakt de site automatisch de lay-out en is het eenvoudig om foto's in te voegen.
