F-16’s en Ilyushin IL-76 vertrekken naar Chili vanaf vliegbasis Volkel
Samen met zes F-16’s vertrekt vanaf vliegbasis Volkel op maandag 4 april een transportvliegtuig, de Ilyushin IL-76 naar Chili. De IL-76 is ingehuurd voor het logistieke vervoer van F-16 reserveonderdelen en navigatieapparatuur.

De F-16’s maken onderdeel uit van een totale verkooporder van 18 F-16’s aan Chili die op 8 juni 2009 is getekend. Begin november 2010 zijn de eerste 6 F-16’s reeds overgedragen aan de Chileense Luchtmacht. In september 2011 staat de derde en laatste overdracht gepland.

De afgelopen jaren hebben de jachtvliegtuigen een aantal aanpassingen ondergaan om aan de Chileense wensen te voldoen. En kregen de vliegtuigen op vliegbasis Woensdrecht het Chileense kleurenschema.
