VIDEO: Loganair brings back 'world's shortest' flight
By David Kaminski-Morrow
UK regional carrier Flybe's Scottish franchise partner, Loganair, is to resume an inter-island service billed as the world's shortest scheduled flight.
The service, between Westray and Papa Westray in the Orkney Islands off northern Scotland, covers a distance of less than 3km, and takes just 2min.
Loganair is operating the flight with Britten-Norman Islander aircraft configured with eight seats.
The entire service, from take-off to landing, is shown in the passenger video below:
Loganair began selling tickets for the service last year because, it says, passengers were "keen to include" the link.
"The move proved so popular with visitors that Loganair is offering an extended season for 2011," it states. The flight will operate from June until early September.
Loganair's inter-island service to Westray and Papa Westray will depart from Kirkwall three times per week.
