Hello!
From the 4th till the 11th of January I was able to do some spotting at Pincess Juliana International Airport at Sint Maarten.
I always wanted to go there, because of the spectacular pictures seen on this forum and the rest of the internet.
We stayed at the Sonesta hotel at Maho Beach, which is next to the airport.
I can advise rooms on the 9th floor ranging from 944 - 950, the even numbers. We had room 946 and had a splendid view on the final approach. With my 400mm zoom I was able to take nice pictures.
Hope you enjoy the pics as much as I do! More pictures are on my website.
Regards,
Berend Jan Floor

Holy Smokes
Excellent series of pictures, showing the big variety of traffic there, esp. the business-jets as well as the old props
Well done and thanks for sharing...

Wooow,
It defenitely is one of the most interesting places in the world.
In the last week of April, I have a stop-over at SXM, on my way to Curacao.
Hopefully I'll be able to make some interseting shots as well

Might not be many more photos of the N8277Q flying, the aircraft had an engine fire on departure from Saint Thomas today, and ran off the runway on landing (ended up on the airport access road). Source
Shame, as the Convair is a real classic!!

Hello and thanks for the reactions!
Special thanks to flying_kiwi for his sad news...
It was exact 1 week ago that I saw the Convair N8277Q. It landed on Monday morning arround 09:00 hrs lt. It might be very well possible that this old lady was on its way to St. Maarten again.
I made a short video of the take-off of the N8277Q on the 10th.
The qualitay is not so good, but its nice enough to see I think...

Berend Jan,
Don't be too pessimistic; according this link
http://forum.scramble.nl/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=70375
it doesn't look too bad
(Don't know how much the engine has been damaged, though)
