Swiss police: small jet crashes near ski resort

Post by Rockville »

A small plane that probably had two people aboard crashed Sunday near the southeastern Swiss ski resort of St. Moritz, police said.

The small jet was attempting to land at Engadin airport about 125 miles (200 kilometers) east of the capital, Bern, before it crashed close to the village of Bever.

"At the moment we are working on the assumption that two people were on board," Beat Huonder, a spokesman for the cantonal (state) police in Graubuenden, told The Associated Press.

He said the plane was on fire and all available rescue forces were sent to the scene of the crash.

There was no word on whether anyone on board survived.

Engadin airport is mostly used by small private jets ferrying people to and from St. Moritz, a favorite skiing destination for the rich and famous deep in the Swiss Alps.
