HI,
I'm planning to go to Slovakia soon to see some Migs. It seems that the only base where they are operating from is Sliac. Although I also found some pictures from Malacky showing Migs... Can anyone confirm which base is better to visit? And can you also let me know about the security restrictions, am I allowed to take pictures?
Thanks for all the help!
Best regards,
g.

Hi anonymous g,
At the moment Sliac is closed, that's why you see pictures of MiG's at Malacky.... Don't expect too many movements though, during our two days on base we saw two or three MiG's a day flying.
No idea about the security outside the base though.
Good luck!

Re: Spotting in Slovakia
Hi,
thanks for your reply first! I received an answer from another user here in the forum saying (from Scramble):
Sliač was reopened again on 16 July 2010 following reconstruction
work which lasted almost one year. In this period the
MiG-29s and L-39s from the Zmiešané krídlo “Otta Smika” operated
from Malacky-Kuchyňa.
So it seems Sliac is open again. Hmm, so you've been visiting the base itself rather than spotting from outside... It's doesn't sound promising if there's just 2 movements a day... I'd have to re-think my trip then unfortunately...
Thanks,
g.

Yes, I saw that reply as well. When we were there the rumour was it was going to take another year to finish the job. That rumour was clearly wrong...
I guess it depends on your determination and patience wether a visit will be worth it. If you go: good luck!

Just to add to that; 2 movements is bit too pessimistic. The MiGs fly more than one sortie, the QRA tends to launch 2 a/c every now and then and there's the L-39s that fly regularly.ghostrydder wrote:It's doesn't sound promising if there's just 2 movements a day...
