Re: C17 crashed in Alaska
How many dedicated "C-17 flying display crews" does the USAF have Wondering whether there was a "special demo crew" on board...
Fairford and Gilze-Rijen were visited by the "West Coast Display Team" this year...

Re: C17 crashed in Alaska
I am not into units and so but if I remember correctly the crew and aircraft (00-0172) that performed the demo at the RIAT 2010 also came from Elmendorf?? If so than perhaps this crash was with the same crew/aircraft.. RIP crew...

The 00-0172 which flew at Fairford came from Altus AFB.Mark B. wrote:I am not into units and so but if I remember correctly the crew and aircraft (00-0172) that performed the demo at the RIAT 2010 also came from Elmendorf?? If so than perhaps this crash was with the same crew/aircraft.. RIP crew...
As far as I know, the USAF only has a West Coast C-17 Demo Team. So this might indeed be the same crew.

Re: C17 crashed in Alaska
According to an obviously informed source at the airliners.net military forum, Elmendorf has 8 C-17's, these being 98-0051, 0056, 99-0167, 0168, 0170 and 00-0171, 0173 and 0174. Should be one of these then, as the USAF acknowledged that it was a home-bird.

Re: C17 crashed in Alaska
Same source on airliners.net mentioned the possibility of a ninth aircraft that was currently in depot. Might it be that -0169 is the "stored" bird ? SCR database has it last noted in 2007.

Anyhow, doesn't look good at all. First loss of type, I guess.

Re: C17 crashed in Alaska
According to another database (Ondutchwings) 99-0169 is assigned to Altus (l/n 4.10)
