Concorde: taxi runs in future at Le Bourget ?

Post by Stratofreighter »

Well, at least they will be looking into the possibilities of such runs at Le Bourget...

Let me guess: This will happen at the 91st day of any year? (as there was an announcement about flying it last year by the Musee de l'Air at that day.)

Perhaps you had better read http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forum ... /4699423/1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; somewhat more thoroughly...

The first of 4 engines has performed a good and smooth engine-run, the other 3 are expected to follow quiet soon with equal results.

 ... they still remain focused to get her in the air by 2012 for the Olympic Games in London.

For those who really believe the Concorde will fly again, it might be wise to read this page once. Especially Question 22 "Finally, THE question - will any of the remaining Concordes ever fly again?".
I do not have any knowledge regarding the Concorde to say who is right, but I would be veeeeeeery sceptical about it.

I agree with you that this has been a master subject for many April 1st jokes. I also don't think see will fly again (even with EASA Experimental authorisation aproval) I remains to much spend money for a 1-time? event. However, as everybody mentions, nothing is impossible and in the mean time a lot can ocur/change so we'll see what turns out.

Note: For the British Vulcan (just to name something) the situation is very much alike (also no licenced people, difficult part acquiring, expensive; however with the joined spirit of many people and help from the CAA they made it).

Two major differences: support from the original manufacturer(s) was (and is) superb on XH558 and the Vulcan was pursued by the Waltons with the ultimate goal to get it airborne again somewhen, meaning she was treated differently during her stay at Bruntingthorpe as the Concordes, which had to be made technical non-airworthy on BA and AF orders.

After reading several other topics about F-BTSD I think it is time to get down to earth about the hype regarding a flying Concorde. Just read the following, published May 29 2010:

(AFP) – 2 hours ago
LE BOURGET, France — A French aeronautics association Saturday examined the engines of a Concorde passenger jet at an air museum outside Paris to determine if they could be used again.
"The objective is not to get it (Concorde) to fly again but to get the engines working again, hoping one day to see it taxi on the tarmac for the pleasure of visitors to the museum," said Frederic Pinlet, head of Olympus 593, named after the Rolls Royce/Snecma engines used on the aircraft.
The association founded a little over a year ago has reached an agreement with the directors of the Le Bourget Air and Space Museum to allow the maintenance work on the Sierra Delta model, which had its last flight in 2003.
Pascal Touzeau, a mechanic for Air France who worked on the Concorde, examined the engine with the help of a camera.
"The exam showed that all is in a perfect condition," he said, adding there would be more tests. The association says their examination of the engines will probably take a year.

The engines were examined using a camera, NOT started!!

Funny since these Brits (the UK partner group of the French Olympus 539 group) are very serious in trying to get her flying during the 2012 Olympics in London and this is NOT a joke (atleast not for them).
I remains to much spend money for a 1-time? event.
You're underestimating how passionate the Brits are about Concorde. From old people to small children, they all want it flying again overhere. Funds won't be the major problem. They can get her airborne (if only for 1 flight) with donations.

I also think it's far fetched to see her fly again (very unlikely Concorde is ever going to get a new CoA) but they have a very powerfull supporting group in the UK including members of parliament and they are seriously lobbying throughout the country.
I always say a boy can learn more at an airport than at any school.

The British group you mentioned, the Save Concorde Group (SCG) is often discussed on the internet. I think this reply, posted by member GDB on airlners.net, gives a clear picture about this group:

I'm afraid any article with a contribution from the 'Save Concorde Group' is tainted.
A bunch who have spent way more time this last 6 years fighting each other, offending anyone with any actual real world Concorde involvement (the few that ever had anything to do with them didn't last long due to in fighting and telling them engineering FACTS they did not want to hear), than actually doing anything practical.
Never involved with them myself, I did meet some of them in 2003/4, not impressed to say the least, all ignorance and conspiracy theories.
When I told them in early 04 that G-BOAF would need major maintenance before it flew again, they just waved it aside, airworthiness regulations on scheduled maintenance not being of interest to them. They were more keen to tell me that they reckoned the said aircraft lost an engine on the last ever Concorde take off on 26th Nov 2003. Funny that, didn't see it myself neither was it mentioned on the tech log for this LHR-FZO flight.

the full discussion here. the reply quoted above is number 8.

Do they realise that Olympics are just a bit more than two years away? (I actually think IF we will hear four Olympus engines during the openingceremony it will be the 201 version ([off-topic]let's hope this happenes when Argentina marches in[/off-topic]). But during the last few times flying near the Stadium at that time was completely off-limits for security reasons.)
