Vietnamese officials say a military pilot was injured after ejecting from a fighter jet before it crashed in central Vietnam over the weekend.
The online VnExpress newspaper says the MiG-21 jet, part of the C40 Air Force unit in Binh Dinh province, crashed Saturday during a training exercise after initial reports of engine failure.
Phan Ngoc Hanh, an officer from the provincial military command, confirmed the crash but declined to provide details. And an official from the provincial People's Committee who only gave the name Lien because she was not authorized to speak to the press, said she heard the explosion while working in the rice field.
VnExpress reported that the pilot suffered minor injuries after ejecting.
