The US National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the near-miss of a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700 and a single-engine Cessna 172 at the Burbank Bob Hope airport in southern California on the morning of 19 April.

According to the NTSB, Southwest Flight 649, inbound from Oakland with 119 passengers and a crew of five, was landing on runway 8 at the airport when the Cessna 172, performing the takeoff phase of a "touch and go" manoeuvre on an intersecting runway, passed within 61m (200ft) vertically and 3m laterally over the 737.
