KLM plant laatste vlucht met Fokker 50 op 27 maart

AMSTELVEEN - KLM vliegt met ingang van 28 maart alleen nog maar met straalvliegtuigen. Een dag eerder voert dochtermaatschappij Cityhopper de laatste lijndienstvlucht met een Fokker 50 uit. Dat meldt het KLM-personeelsblad Wolkenridder maandag (18 januari). De tweemotorige turbopropvliegtuigen zijn twintig jaar bij KLM in dienst geweest.

KLM will cease to exist as a propeller aircraft operator after Saturday the 27th of March 2010. This according to the KLM company journal "De Wolkenridder".
KLM Cityhopper flew Fokker 50 aircraft for about twenty years, operating fifteen different aircraft in this period.

Indeed it is! I have flown many times on these beautiful planes, I always liked those rides! Will it also be the end for turbo-prop operations at KLM, or will we see an order for something later on...? There were always rumours floating around that KLM was to order the DHC-8-400, but after the SAS debacle and the negative image it got, KLM refrained from ordering it...

Time will tell!

It looks like the end.... at least for now. With KLM going Embraer it looks like they will order the ERJ.170 (as a replacement for the F.70) before any new prop. Also the F.70 is already replacing the F.50 now, so I don´t see the step back to 50-seaters coming anytime soon.

But, never say never.
