That's a rather regular procedure.DG AIR wrote:What a beautiful aircraft. Is it normal that the landing gear not is retracted during testflight? It went into the clouds with the gear deployed.

Imagine what would happen if the landing gear was retracted but would refuse to extend again during this VERY public first flight...

Good PR for the Boeing guys; impressive livestream, nice flight tracker... the works! But, most important of all, a beautiful bird up where she belongs... Finally!

Not entirely true, gear is probably retracted at a more safe altitude (for that we have to wait untill the air2air footage) just like with the A400M, A380 as the most recent major maiden flights.Stratofreighter wrote:That's a rather regular procedure.DG AIR wrote:What a beautiful aircraft. Imagine what would happen if the landing gear was retracted but would refuse to extend again during this VERY public first flight...
Some examples:
First flight 757:

as you can see in the video the gear remains down for a longer period as normal, but later on in the video it's retracted.
First Flight A380:

From 00:45
First Flight A400M:
I haven't come up with this all by myself, read also a lot on atcbox.com on the "gear-down-issue"
