Coventry Airport To Close Immediately

Post by Rockville »

Coventry airport is to close with immediate effect, making 70 people redundant.
The staff of 70 people are all expected to lose their jobs
An airport spokesman said: "The board and shareholders of West Midlands International Airport Ltd have made the decision to close Coventry airport with immediate effect."
West Midlands International airport faced a winding-up order at the High Court tomorrow.
The airport used to host Thomsonfly, but since November 2008 has only handled freight and business aviation.
Coventry Airport was acquired in January 2006 by CAFCO-C - a joint venture between Howard Holdings and the Convergence International Airports Organisation.

Coventry Airport closes: consequences for Air Atlantique...

Coventry Airport has been closed indefinitely because of financial difficulties, it has been announced.

West Midlands International Airport, which owns it, is due to be wound up by the Inland Revenue at the High Court on Wednesday, a spokesperson said.

She added the board of directors took the decision to close the airport.

Passenger airline Thomsonfly stopped flights out of the airport in 2008 and a year earlier the airport saw plans for a new terminal rejected.

A public inquiry found the new terminal would have had an adverse impact on noise in the area.

Since then, the airport has been operating as a cargo terminal and a base for executive jets and other aviation-related businesses.
I do wonder what this will mean for the operations of Air Atlantique/Classic Flight. :(
Yes, Air Traffic Control, operated by Marshall Aerospace, has ceased to function at CVT! All Atlantic Airlines ATP's and RVL Cessna aircraft have now diverted to Birmingham, as have all general aviation aircraft. This does not bode well...

The communist British government can be blamed for this closure and other airport closures and job losses in the future due to it's decision to tax air travel at prohibitive levels from Britain.
