Re: C-130 AMI crash
Hi all,
This is what I found on a Italian news site.
Unfortunately I can't read Italian, but I understood that all five onboard were killed during the crash.
------------
PISA - Un C130 dell’aeronautica militare è precipitato a Pisa. «L'aereo è decollato alle 14.10 e subito dopo c'è stato il crash» spiega l'ufficio stampa dell'aeronautica militare. Il C-130 è stato visto da alcuni testimoni avvitarsi e precipitare. L'incidente è avvenuto in località Le Rene, vicino a Coltano.

Re: C-130 AMI crash
Looks bad...
Babelfish gave this:
PISA - a C130 of the Air Force is hasty to Pisa. “L' airplane is taken off to the 14,10 and quickly after c' it has been the crash” explains l' office prints dell' Air Force. The C-130 has been seen some witnesses to screw and to fall. L' incident has happened in locality the Kidney, near Coltano. L' airplane, second how much reported from the mayor of Pisa Filippeschi Mark, has fallen on the railway line Pisa-Collesalvetti-Cecina, a secondary draft. VICTIMS - To edge of the fallen aircraft c' they were 5 military ones. According to the mayor of Pisa they would have been already found again 4 corpses, while there would be dispersing that but he thinks himself or remained victim dell' incident. It was be a matter of a training flight, in which it was previewed l' employment to edge at least of an instructor. The AIDS - L' airplane, like reported dall' Air Force, is hasty quickly after the takeoff. The C130 of 46/the aerial Brigade of Pisa has been caught fire and the crash crews currently are engaged to extinguish flames.

Not very "neat" English, but understandable. Condolances to the families...
Hans.

Re: C-130 AMI crash
Five killed as Italian C-130J transport crashes
A Lockheed Martin C-130J transport from the Italian air force’s 46th Air Brigade crashed immediately after taking off on a routine training flight from Pisa at around 14:10 local time on 23 November, killing the two pilots and three other personnel onboard.
Initial eyewitness reports were contradictory, with some saying the C-130J started to roll before diving, and others reporting to have seen a fire on board immediately after take-off.
Another source says an EasyJet Airbus A319 was circling Pisa airport while the C-130J climbed, with the Hercules having been seen to make a right turn before hitting the ground and catching fire. It crashed on a nearby railway line, with an oncoming train having managed to stop before reaching the point of impact. The aircraft’s wreckage was spread within an area with a radius of about 150m (490ft).
No further information has been made available. The Italian air force had a fleet of 22 C-130Js, including 10 stretched-fuselage -30s, prior to the accident.

Re: C-130 AMI crash
Here she is in better days.....
The exact crash location is: 43°40'47N 10°24'21E
Pretty close to the position where I spotted two months ago at Pisa.
Thoughts go out to the family and friends of those lost.
Regards, Rob

The Italian air force is continuing to investigate the cause of the fatal accident, but has not halted flying operations with its remaining 21 C-130Js, which include one tanker.
