Req. update on spotting at Hyakuri AB?

Post by R.Snijders »

Looking for an update on the possibilities to photograph the based aircraft in action from outside Hyakuri AB . This since I discovered that the Scramble airfield guide is not up to date for this matter. Thanks in advance!
With regards,

Just go there and find out! You won't be dissapointed.
The places in the airfield guide are still current. There are even more places, not pictured in the guide. Along the taxiway (at the 03 end, mornings) and close to the 03 pianobar (afternoons). From where they taxi toward and on the runway + a few hundered meters to the left.
Good luck,
Peter

Magnificent place, Hyakuri.
At the 03 end (afternoon side) there even is a mound of earth you can stand on to shoot the planes, or you can choose to stay at the fence a few 10's of meters forward.
Heaven must be like this!

And don't forget opposite the tower for a load of action take-offs!! espescially when the're flying from the 03 side. Brilliant! Afternoon only that is. Personally I also like a landing place on a hill about 2cm right from the place 2 on the scramble chart. Not noted on the map. Beautiful landing pictures in the morning. Both runways.

Hyakuri, approximately opposite the tower, according to EXIF 14:45 local on 8 April 2009:

Yes!! That's what I meant. Great! One at the time instead of pairs is my preference though. I don't know how to post pictures on scramble, otherwise I would show some aswell. But this is a brilliant spot!

Allright here is a first try, hope it works:
In addition some extra pics of the take-off, opposite the tower. I prefer long lenses for nice angles, but this action on the left runway is so close, it is easy from, let's say, 200mm > to whatever you like. I thought I shot these with 300mm fixed on an EOS-50D, so 480mm.

These were taken with more mm's.

Here is a sample from the view at the pianobar...

..and finally here is what I meant with the landing at the 03 side from that big hill, so R. Snijders, I hope I convinced you to just go there and get them while you can!! The close action on the new runway should be over by Januari though...

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks Hans!!

I appriciate it! It took me half a day to get it done with Flickr and so on, but I now get it. (a littlebit) Hopefully Robbert finds these "new" places (landing, pianobar), at least not in the Scramble guide, interesting enough.

Cheers,
Peter
