From the Aviation Harald
Turkish Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration TC-JPA performing flight TK-1144 from Istanbul Ataturk (Turkey) to Cairo (Egypt) with 103 people on board, had just taken off runway 18L, when the tower noticed a part of the left hand engine cowling separated and fell to the ground. The controller radioed the crew accordingly. The crew decided to return to Istanbul, where the airplane landed safely about one hour later.
Runway 18L needed to closed for 20 minutes to collect the debris.
A replacement aircraft departed with a delay of 3:45 hours.

Forgot to close the cowlinglocks after an inspection/work on the engine ...and somebody made a 'bad' walkaround before departure...JS50557 wrote:hmmm, curious what the cause of this loss of engine parts is..

Indeed. Not the first time its happened (Ryan International A320 opf Airtran), and likely won't be the last.gatso76 wrote:Forgot to close the cowlinglocks after an inspection/work on the engine ...and somebody made a 'bad' walkaround before departure...JS50557 wrote:hmmm, curious what the cause of this loss of engine parts is..
