Finnair to withdrawn Boeing 757 from fleet
Finnair said today it will withdraw three of its Boeing 757 aircraft, operating in leisure traffic, from service as part of fleet restructuring.
The company will continue to operate four Boeing 757 aircraft, whose replacement in the coming years with Airbus aircraft is being considered. Finnair is already using Airbus A320 aircraft for leisure flights. Finnair's goal is to get mostly Airbus aircraft in the fleet, because costs can be saved through standardization.
The company will operate some of this winter season's leisure flights with new Airbus A330 long-haul aircraft. Otherwise the A330 aircraft will be used in scheduled passenger traffic.
Lasse Heinonen, Finnair's deputy CEO, said that the fleet restructuring will reduce the company's capacity in the summer season, when demand for leisure flights in Finland is lower than in the winter season. He also added that this way the company will be able to use its long-haul fleet more flexibly on scheduled and leisure flights according to seasonal fluctuations in demand structure.

Re: Finnair to withdrawn Boeing 757 from fleet
Does that mean that Schiphol will be visited by an A330 i.s.o. the regular 752? I think that's a little too much, but only A320's won't do the job either. Or will they?

Usually they send their airbus A319 or A320
Or did you mean Icelandair

The last AY 757 that came to AMS was in 2004 due to the Euro Championship Soccer in PortugalB767-300ER wrote:Since when is the B752 of Finnair a regular visitor at AMSbramos wrote:Does that mean that Schiphol will be visited by an A330 i.s.o. the regular 752? Sure, it was Air Finland. Cannot imagine AY flew 757 in the past few years

They didn't. But Air Finland is also not a regular visitor, as mentioned by bramos. Think he(bramos) is messing up some airlines.Boudewijn van Oirschot wrote:Sure, it was Air Finland. Cannot imagine AY flew 757 in the past few years

Re: Finnair to withdrawn Boeing 757 from fleet
Air Baltic is interested to get a few Finnair 757s, not sure if they will get those, as they have PW engines instead of the RR ones Air Baltic has now... but we will see.
Finnair is having one problem.. they cannot fill up A330s for leisureflights during winterseason.. and A320 doesnt have the Canary Islands range! So there is no aircraft suitable to fill up this gap!

They can order extra A321s for the leisureflights. Those might make it to the Canary Islands.HV7572KC wrote:Air Baltic is interested to get a few Finnair 757s, not sure if they will get those, as they have PW engines instead of the RR ones Air Baltic has now... but we will see.

And an A320 can use Germany/Switzerland as a stop-over eventually.
Does Finnair have any codeshare or partnership with Air Finland?
If Finnair is well connected Air Finland can share its 757s during Winter season... gotta have to mention I don't know anything about the Finnish carriers. You do, HV7572KC
Re: Finnair to withdrawn Boeing 757 from fleet
The A321 has less range than a A320, so I doubt that if a A320 can´t make it, an A321 all of a sudden can....Boudewijn van Oirschot wrote:They can order extra A321s for the leisureflights. Those might make it to the Canary Islands.
Or did you mean an A319, that one might do the trick, but is probably too small for leisure.

Re: Finnair to withdrawn Boeing 757 from fleet
I once read that those 757s were the most utilized ac's in the world. is this still the case? this was due to the fact the distance between Finland and Gran Canary and the Far East were they were deployed.
