REQ: mil spotting around Tokyo
Dear all,
I will have the opportunity to spend 2 days of spotting around Tokyo shortly. It will be a Sunday and a Monday. I will reserve the Monday for Hyakuri - I could need some advise for the Sunday:
- visiting Kisarazu on a Sunday - anything visible from the outside or would all be inside?
- same for Tateyama?
- regarding Hyakuri - has anybody bought a stepladder close to Hyakuri?! Any advise would be welcome, before spending 3 hours searching...
Ciao,
Erik
p.s. I have been to Iruma and Atsugi before so I know my way around there.

Try Atsugi,it's about 60 Km west of Tokyo, but they have movements(both Japanese and US) every day.The base is near a station,if using public transoprt.By road, the roads get very busy during the day.

Did not buy one at Hyakuri, but home depot centres like Homac and Gran Stage (http://www.yamashin.info/GStsukuba/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) sell step ladders. Best approach would be to locate one using GoogleEarth.eriktex wrote:- regarding Hyakuri - has anybody bought a stepladder close to Hyakuri?! Re: REQ: mil spotting around Tokyo
Thanx for your replies! Then I will skip Kisarazu and just try Shimofusa, Iruma and Atsugi on the Sunday (been there before, I liked the roof of that apartment building at Atsugi). Last time I was there also during the weekend and the traffic was not too bad at all...
I will Google for the stepladder (and after use I will hide it near Hyakuri for the next Dutch spotter visitors, will post the coordinats here...)

You can also chain-lock it to a tree, like they do at Iruma. Then send the key to the next guy going where the stepladder is.
By the way, did you consider Yokota as an option for Sunday ? Or Shimofusa ?
Cheers,
Iwan

Re: REQ: mil spotting around Tokyo
It all depends on the time that I have (land at 8 am on Sunday) and how busy the trafic is.
I will follow the route Shimofusa, Iruma, Yokota, Atsugi but I need to be back at the hotel in Tsuchiura in the evening (and buy the stepladder along the way...on a Sunday) and I don't wanna cross downtown Tokyo. And then Monday morning early it is Hyakuri time (and Kasumigaura)!!!

Re: REQ: mil spotting around Tokyo
Hoi,
Erik

Re: REQ: mil spotting around Tokyo
Isn't Atsugi empty with US Navy already? They were supposed to have moved to Iwakuni this quarter.
Good luck,
Iwan
