Ah... the ultimate proof you don't know what you are talking about! That was not an organised fly-in, as we are discussing here, and where the mentioned opportunities are on offer. Those aircraft were just visitors for the museum, and could be photographed great from the side of Schiphol 1928 (and don't tell this is wrong. I might dump a lot of photographic evidence). At that arrival until after the park closed, the guys in their yellow jacks had to work their alpha sierra sierra echo siera off for the draaiavond that was to take place that evening, so the reason why they couldn't accomodate your request must be in the fact a. the apron at that time was an active part of an airfield, so visitors are an absolute no-go in SUCH cases and b. they had to undertake a time critical tasking to get the apron ready before sunset to accomodate some hundreds of people, and give them the action they were promised (see some threads in the photo forum around that day) (and no-one was promised to get on the apron for these Germans).Fogg wrote:Negative. My addition was that Miles aircraft had to take off from the UK and the weather wasn't cooperative in the subject of "Take off with an old vintage aircraft and fly it across a pond for many miles..." if i remember this well i hope?Fogg wrote:Doesn't matter. The Miles wasn't announced I think, that was actually a nice surprise, except that I couldn't get a decent shot. I was referring to the German aircraft.

Well, it DOES matter. If you behave yourself like "it has been announced that some aircraft will arrive SO I want to get on a spot where everyone knows it is not allowed normally (as all the yellow signs around the apron say) and it is not my fault they won't let me go there and I don't want to see they don't have time to cooperate", it realy is your problem! (And maybe that of other people that give spotters a bad name.) BTW opening times were even extended that day to let the people see those Germans, notwithstanding the fact that the parc was to made ready for the evening program. Getting public at the apron is a special treat for organised fly-ins, like this one, but not for a bunch of visitors. If you can't see the difference between such events, well, then you're Oops rule C.5, can't post the last word.....

It irritates me that you are assuming I was misbehaving. I was not. Of course, you can't always grant everyone apron access and I accepted that.
Wow, what a generous thing to do... allowing people to actually see what they came for and paid for! Amazing.BTW opening times were even extended that day to let the people see those Germans

Good idea... Perhaps the discussion got nasty becasuse I mentioned an excess number of volunteers (on the apron), which was a rude thing to say. I apologize for that to aviodromefriend and topgun, who help to make things possible.
The issues discussed are all very minor except the main point I wanted to make: that I can't help feeling that Aviodrome management (not the volunteers of course) are a little too easy in announcing certain specific aircraft to attract the public, without making clear that most visiting aircraft are only due to arrive at some unknown/unannounced time on event day itself, so that no-shows due to weather or tech are all too common (or even, apparently, because the pilot is only a (fly-in) visitor and had changed his mind). That's just not a sound basis to attract paying spectators in my opinion.
Erik, I don't know you personally, but your posts always strike me as especially intelligent and reasonable, so if you don't mind, I'd like to know what your thoughts were in the earlier discussion mentioned by aviodromefriend.

When the times are known then it's possible to give a ETA and ETD here... alot of things have to be judged like Flight hours, engine hours and possible weather interferance at Lelystad and the "homes" of these aircraft... We get the info on the day itself and then its still a subject to change...

The weather will always be a problem but i think that de ETA and ETD normaly known because of the time's that Lelystad airport will support the aviodrome (closing time of the tower) . But I will look if the time will be posted here or every were (scramble , the aviodrome site ?)

well you're partially correct about the ETA and D, but bare in mind that they don't have to held themselves on slottimes... so shall i make a rough ETA and ETD: between 08.00 and 18.00? hahahaha
