Amazing pictures and amazing that, while everybody is staying on the same area, such different pictures come up. My compliments! However I wonder how many of these are heavily cropped just to make it look fancy.

Off course some are cropped, but others were taken with ranges between 300mm - 500mm.
Add the 1.6x factor of the camera and voila, many mm's when only 250mm is needed on some places..

Hi Peter,

There is absolutely no need to make heavy crops. Quite often you will find that you have too many mm's on your camera. Everybody with a 300mm on a regular digital camera (with the 1.5 or 1.6 magnification sensor) will be able to make photos which don't require any cropping at all. The only problem is that a single pass from any aircraft will present several nice angles, so it's impossible to shoot "randje-randje" for every shot of the pass (zooming is not really an option at those speeds).

If you have more than 300mm you can make nice (near) frontal shots or close up shots.

Can you tell us something more about the minimum required autofocus speed? I assume there must have been a lot of 1-series and 5-series bodies overthere...

To all: all amazing shots!! I really want to go there too...(I wouldn't mind doing a long hike, waiting for hours, in the fog, for such quality results...but HOW do I convince my wife )

Hi Walter,

Don't worry too much about auto focus speeds. Indeed, there were a few 1D's en 5D's up there, but also many 30D's, 40D's en 50D's. Mind you, there were even four Nikons up there....

If you use the small freeware tool Opanda iExif 2, you can see the camera and photo details (e.g. Exif data) from every shot that is published online. Just right-mouse-click the photo on any website, and it will show stuff like Camera type, lens (mm), shutterspeed, apperture, ISO without having to open the program itself. You can download it from http://www.download.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Convincing the wife to go to Wales is super simple. Wales has a beautiful country side, lovely small villages and very friendly people. If you like rest and relaxation without the hassle of modern amusement parks, big shopping malls and mass tourism, this is the place to be. And these days with the low "pound-to-euro-rate" the UK is rather cheap !

You better start planning......
