Embraer launches KC-390

Post by ehusmann »

From Luchtvaartnieuws (Dutch only):

Embraer launched today a new tactical airlifter called KC-390. In size it is positioned between the C-27J and C-130J. The Brazilian Air Force will procure at least 23 of these.

The picture shows a plane that resembles the Japanese C-1 a little bit. Hopefully it will attract more buyers besides the Brazilian Air Force. I for one, would love to see these flying around in Europe!

looks a bit like a love child from a BAe-146 and a C-1 :-)

I'd say we buy a couple as well.... faster en cheaper than the herc, but a good bit sexier than the C-295 if u ask me...

I like the looks of the C-295 better personally. I don't think discussion about the RNLAF buying these is relevant as we have the KDC-10 for tanker purposes (which can carry WAY more fuel, besides) and for transport the C-130 (with 2 'new' ones on their way) is sufficient for the tasks of the Dutch taskforce.

I know we don't have a requirement for transport aircraft, besides, we can't even buy fighters let alone transports :|

But I must say that somehow I would like to see some of these flying around in Europe.. Don't think the 235/295 are ugly, but compared to the Embraer I think they look a bit plastic and fragile.. Maybe it will prove to be a good in-theatre plane instead of the C-27 that everyone seems to buy nowadays..

Hadn't the C-390 had already been launched?
As I understand it, this is the announcement that the Brazilian Air Force has ordered the tanker variant of the design. (Which explains the K in front of the designation.)

No, the plane has been officially launched yesterday (and not today as I said in my first post). Although Embraer had proposed the plane before and was taking to customers and subcontracters, there was no launch yet. This deal with the Brazilian Air Force is the first and means the aircraft will be developed.
