An Emb 110 from the charterline Manaus Aero Taxi crashed in the Manapacuru river in the Amazon region, about 80 miles south of Manaus in Brazil, carrying 22 passengers and 2 crew. 4 people were found alive, the other 20, including 4 babies, are still missing.

The aircraft conducted services between different cities in the Amazon region. According survivors the plane got engine trouble.

According local ATC-members the pilot tried to return to Coari due to bad weather, where it just had taken off. "Pilots just requested permission to return, when all contact was lost", according a spokesman of the airline.

Brazilian Airforce tried to lift the wreckage out of the water, but postponed the operation due to bad weather conditions.
