some old 80's pics of Gilze-Rijen AB
Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

After multiple visits to Gilze since my first time back in 1977, the real thing happened in 1984, the Tactical Air Meet!

Sometimes Gilze received some real nice visitors at the cross-servicing. These two Spaghetti lovers departed Gilze Rijen on 19 September 1986.

A few NF-5As of 316sq had bright yellow, dayglow or blue surfaces over the upper center fuselage section to attract attention during ACM.
K-3046 of 316sq seen during landing at Gilze in the Mid-'80s.
Long range fuel tanks underneath the K-3027, early 1986.
Several KLu NF-5s received a VUD badge ("Vervroegd Uit Dienst" which means Early Retirement) during their retirement period.
NF-5B K-4018 was seen at the Gilze cross-service ramp in the Fall of 1986. Eventually, the K-4018 left for Venezuela as 1711.

One of the first, or the first (?) US deployment at Gilze. Eighteen A-7Ds of the 120th TFS and 188th TFS (Colorado and New Mexico ANG) flew several weeks from 'our' base during June/July 1977.
The pictures are not the best quality, but hey, they are one of the first in my collection.

Hello everybody,
Yesterday I started scanning some old negatives of mine, with a small and simple negative film copier I bought recently.
Scanning them brought back some very good memories of those good old days, when we only had 80- 200 mm analog lenses, if only we had the equipment of nowadays back then…..
Nevertheless, in the eighties, life was good spotting at Gilze together with people such as Jonathan Verschuuren, Mark Schellekens, Jan-Toine v. Hooft, Erik van Poppel, Frank Oenen, Martin v.d. Sluys, Jan Ruedisueli, Hans Antonissen, Benno Goethals, Ben Sikkenga, Hans Rijsdijk, Herbert van Hulten, Niels van Erck, Frans Nuyten.
Despite the poor quality, I hope you’ll like them.
Greetings,
Antoine Bosboom

Hi,
indeed these photographs bring back great memory's. Thanks to my older brother, Hans Antonissen, I started to take my first black/white pictures during TAM '84 with a Practica MTL-5 (I believe). I was just a boy of fourteen. TAM '84 was held almost 25 years ago and has been one of the biggest exercises ever held in the Netherlands. My god, time flies when thinking back in time.
And although the quality of the pictures taken then by me are of poor quality (if I compare with now-a-days) I still enjoy that time in memory. To bad I do not have a scanner to digitilize my old black/white negatives and slides.
I hope Marcel, Stephan, Jonathan, Antoine and others keep posting these pics of Gilze-Rijen airbase. Just take a look at the surroundings and backgrounds on the pictures shown. Gilze-Rijen airbase really changed during the years.
Grtz and happy eastern.
Edward Antonissen.

Very 'disturbing' pics chaps, lovely!
Steppie, your point of view at the TAM was better than mine...
