Planes almost collide on the tarmac

Post by JS50557 »

CHENNAI: In what could have been an aviation disaster, two aircraft came close to colliding - the nose of one was almost under the tail of the other - on the tarmac of the Meenambakkam airport here on Thursday.
The accident was averted by the ground staff at the airport, who, on noticing two aircraft - a Paramount plane heading to Bangalore and an Etihad cargo carrier - on the same course in the taxiway around 9.30 pm, alerted the Air Traffic Control. Both pilots were immediately asked to switch off their engines.
According to airport sources, four flights were lined up on the tarmac for take off through runway 07. Paramount's Embraer, with 45 passengers on board, was behind a Jet Airways plane and a SpiceJet flight.
When the Paramount was getting on to the taxiway, Etihad's Airbus- A 300, which left cargo area's bay 9, suddenly came into the scene.
After both pilots switched off the engines, the aircraft were towed away from the tarmac, airport sources said.

:blabla: To rephrase: inadvertendly not giving way, late braking, blocked track and need for a push-back to get out. Some aviation disaster, wow... and the same story three times.
