The Lisunov will not leave Hungary this weekendCrimson wrote:Any news on the LI-2 yet?
Atrocious weather on the way to the Netherlands is to blame.
The Douglas A-26B Invader arrived, will leave again Sunday afternoon.
The DC-2 flew as well, is supposed to do the same tomorrow.
No flying Junkers 52, as planned she has left for Dusseldorf this afternoon.
On Sunday between 11.30 and 12.30 all radials of the "Gilze-Rijen Gang" will arrive at Lelystad, except the Stinson that is.
And if you are atttending you had better not leave before 14.30 hrs...
Weather permitting you'll see some action by some attendees before that time.
Also tomorrow both DDA Dakotas can be seen. Because of a technical problem the (sold-out) Catalina sightseeing flight this Saturday could not take off.
If all goes well tomorrow again an engine run by the Constellation is "on". The public will be kept as far away from the nose as only two metres.
Bad for photography except side-on both left and right (you'll only get the nose and the engines with an 18 mm lens) but for feeling and hearing all four engines so up close
All Wrights will be run up to take-off power during this demonstration, but not simultaneously. With the public facing the nose and the engines behind fences only six metres or so away from the fast-turning props N749NL had better not jump her wheel-chocks...
The Grumman Tracker kept her silence all day though...
The earth bank/dike is still very much available for photography, no changes since 2006 and 2007!
You don't have to have platform/runway access to make pictures as seen at

We've let people up close exactly to expirience the thunder, something most of them haven't ever before.
Take-Off power is out of the question though and I wonder where you got this knowledge from.
The truth is we didn't even touch half power and we won't tomorrow either.
Further more the aircraft is on the brakes and chocked, combined with the limited power setting there is absolutly no change of jumping the chocks.
But if you want to stay away 100 meters tomorrow just let me know and I will make sure everybody stays behind the fence, no problem.
Cheers,
Willem

I certainly did not stay away 100 metres today...
Have got the feeling that somehow I annoyed you by posting my comments.
Hope this is not the case... Thanks for your information.
But indeed, there aren't that many occasions where one can actually "feel the noise" made by an radial engine, let alone this close to the action and by four engines no less!

Connie has run the engines at Sunday. (around 15.45 Local) The procedure to run them started almost immediately after the Tracker got silent.Mad Viper wrote:Can someone please tell me why they didn't fired up the engines of the Connie today, or why there was such little action in comparison of yesterday. Or why you couldn't walk on the outside of the tower today. Killed the chance of a good photo.

And why so late. The whole day there was almost nothing to do. Only some plane arrving and departing but for the rest, well it was boring. I left at 14.30 cause i've walked along the plane 10 times already and took the photos that I wanted. The commentator who spook didn't help either to stay.

So the Tracker did get fired up on the Sunday? Not so the day previously...aviodromefriend wrote:Connie has run the engines at Sunday. Michel, as a "Fly-In" is mostly just that and not an airshow periods of inactivity are quite common. Especially if the number of participants actually attending eventually turns out to be low.
And the IVW and Luchtvaartpolitie will make sure that a Fly In without the permission of an airshow will stay just that. That's why the fly-bys were so high...
So indeed the speaker had to somehow keep up spirits. Didn't work for you apparently...
The DC-2, Mitchell and Mustang did fly off after 13.30 hrs, landing again somewhere before 14.30 hrs, did they
But according to "aviodromefriend" the Constellation engine run was this time rather late. On the Saturday her propellers were turning at 14.00 hrs...

If this would have been an airshow, some display authorisations might have been withdrawn to. (Fokker Four/Three, for overflying the crowd) So be glad it wasn't an airshow (although I don't understand why it appears to be allowed to break a crowdline at a fly-in and not at a show).Stratofreighter wrote:Michel, as a "Fly-In" is mostly just that and not an airshow periods of inactivity are quite common.

Ok, can imagine that, but why so late on the activities, and why then shortly aftereach other, why not spread it out a bit. If there is nothing to do, why wait with the engine runs. If there is a gap in your program isn't there such as an back up plan. The talk about money, people pay to see something, yes I know that those things cost money. There are two sides to this story I guess.Stratofreighter wrote: Michel, as a "Fly-In" is mostly just that and not an airshow periods of inactivity are quite common. The Oldtimer Fly-inn was also a Fly-inn, just like you describe but with far more actions, will exclude the car part of that day.
The participants were low, with the majority being known standard visitors. But also standard visitors can make a great show. But with a B-25 stashed away at lelystad airport, a Mustang hiding behind a Tracker, that doesn't really help to get ride of the those dull boring moments. An arrival of the B-25 in front of the crowd and a start-up had improved the event I think.
No and the fact that some of the things he said about aviation were incorrect ,with one mayor historical error, doesn't help either. So indeed the speaker had to somehow keep up spirits. Didn't work for you apparently...
I could only see the B-25 landing, nothing else, it did however made an formation pass with the Mustang I heard. If you already have such a small number of visitors, why not get some actions by doing his start-up on the aviodrome grounds. Mustang was put behind the KLM Tracker with it's start-up, not the ideal place. So not much to see from there. Don't know about the Uiver, was little action going around her when I left. The DC-2, Mitchell and Mustang did fly off after 13.30 hrs, landing again somewhere before 14.30 hrs, did they

A great visitor for me was the Invader, never in my life have I seen that type. But also that visit was a big dissapointment. With fences to close to him, the Catalina wing to close to him and the schiphol tower being closed, the oppertunity for a good photo was at the minimum.
For most of the day the halve of the platform was empty, it was until the SKHV showed up they filled it. But not until they first stock pilled behind the fence. There was a single S-11 put on display next to the T2, also the Tracker. Why not put those on the platform in front of the schipholbuilding or the orange DC-3 there. And the Fouga was also a option to place there such as saturday. So that you have a nicely filled platform, to me more appealing then a empty one.
Yes, I know you can't please everyone. If I knew that this day turned out like this, and I had the day off on saturday. I had chosen to go on saturday. Think I will pass for next year if there will be a next Dakota Fly-inn.
Cheers, Michel
