Spotting @ Pusan, Korea

Dear board members,

I've heard that spotting @ S. Korea will be somehow even more dangerous than spottingi n China. Is it? Anyway I might have the chance to travel to Pusan, S. Korea. Any spotting tips plz?

I've checked on Google earth. It seems to be all farm lands all around the airport... should be easy to find a place to spot for APP shots?

To Rogier: I checked on Google Earth, Kimhae is a mixed civilian and military airport? So I think I mean both civilian and military...

And specific spotting experience in Pusan Kimhae?

... I've spotted in China without problems.

Was this at a military, civil or mixed field? What do you mean by spotting? Reading numbers (with or without binoculars), writing numbers, taking photos?

Sorry for going off-topic. Perhaps a mod can merge this with the spotting in China topic, if the thread continues with Chinese info.

I can only help you a bit with the military stuff:

Busan is one of the most open airfields in Korea, but on the Military side aircrafts are hide behind blastwalls.
Only the Hercs are high enough to read them. The rest can be easily seen but no serial visible.
This can be done by drive on a road along the fence at the west side of runway 18.
Very close to the fence also 3 C-123's are parked for decoy (only one seen at GE), but probably they are gone now.

All preserved aircraft can be seen from roads on the east side which lead to the military gate and offices.

The choppers from the Police can be easy read from the south runway head.

And keep eye on the maintenance area, maintenance on RoKAF as well as USAFPAC aircraft is done there!

These days I've recieved several local spotters. They advice that, yes, spotting in Korea is not that quite popular, and sometimes will be hassled by secrity or police. but they also say that security or police will only warn you and ask you to leave. So they say only approach shots are possible in Kimhae.

But my focus is to photograph acutally, not just to spot and take serials. Mr. van der Vet, is taking photos alongside west fence possible? in your opinion?

Hello

The 3 C-123 decays on the NW corner of the field were still there last October.

The new international terminal(then under construction) looked to be good for spotting.The access road to the departure level had several people parked on it and by parking here,it was possible to log taxying RoKAF CN-235 and parked airliners.

Spotting on the extended centreline to the south of the field presented no problems.
