Yep, it's closed. That's one of the downsides of having one runway. On the other hand, from AMS to RTM isn't that far, so I don't think too much passengers will be bothered, especially since it's Fri/Sat/Sun, so most business travellers don't fly anyway.

Good afternoon!

Well, most holiday-people WILL find it very uncomfortable! That is because of the quick 'check-in and board'-time Rotterdam Airport provides them. Passengers who travel via Rotterdam Airport in this period will be transported by bus which is arranged via the handling agent over here.

Nevertheless, the Airport will be open for any kind of helicopter-flights which can off course land at the HAP :)

Ciao, MartijnMD11
The airports' runway is the most important main street in any town!

Rotterdam airport get a new runway

Post by maurits »

Hi,

According to an article in ''Cobouw'' on 6 May 2008 the runway wil be renovated. In the weekend on 23-24-25 May 150 workers will renew the whole runway in 80 hours non stop! Also a big part of the (runway)light-infrastructure at the airport will be changed.
It seems that in this period there will be less or no flying activities at Rotterdam airport.

Regards,

Maurits

RTM will get a new ILS system on rwy 06. Also the Glide slope will be changed. So after the work the aircraft can land with ILS on both sides.
The rwy with ILS will stay CAT I.

Rumour of a fact? I haven't heard anything about upgrading the rwy 06 with an ILS system.

Curious where that ILS story comes from.
The runway is closed for resurfacing work, as stated in the quoted NOTAM. The ILS (24) is available for practice approaches. Helicopters can still use the field.

BTW:
- To install an ILS you don't need to close the runway for days (the transmitters are not on the runway).
- You don't test ILS equipment on the ground with a 747, you test the 747's equipment on a chosen ILS system.

Hier staat het volgende:

"Op baan 06 (kant van Overschie) beschikken we op dit moment niet over een instrument landings systeem (ILS) maar in de zomer van 2008 wordt ook hier door de LVNL een ILS geïnstalleerd."
