On Monday 12 May Chengdu Airport in the Chinese province of Shihan was hit by an earthquake that has badly damaged this part of western China. At the time of the earthquake 14.20 (local) a KLM B777-200 was at the airport. The aircraft was able to depart Chengdu with a 9 hour delay.

The B777 aircraft returned to AMS early this morning 13 May following an intermediate stop in Helsinki for a crew change flown in from AMS.

Crew for the HEL-AMS stretch was flown in by PH-KCH (MD11) who was scheduled to go to HEL for maintenance anyhow 8)
