I heard rumours that the runway is in maintenance. is that true?
can any body confirm this please, because i planned a visit at Thursday 28 feb.
Better check the NOTAM;s  They are only building a new tower, but if this will affect flying activity.....i don't think at all.

Have fun and look forward to your log and pictures.

Morning,

Good luck if you go there next thursday. You always see interesting stuff overthere. But keep in mind that 24 a/c are still deployed.
12 A-10s to return early march
12 F-16s not to return before April

Oscar

Depents if units are home, if they have nightflying etc. Cannot tell.

Right now, only one squadron is active at Spangdahlem. They will probably fly with some F-16. The other F-16 squadron and the A-10 squadron are away. Maybe, if you're lucky you will however see one or two A-10's, but no more.

Personally, I would choose another day to go, when the two deployed ssquadrons are back. For instance, in march 2006 all squadrons where home. I saw 17 F-16's and 8 A-10's plus some C-17's in one morning. Right now, you'll see a lot less than that.
Answers will be questioned.....

You can also choose to combinate this field with Ramstein or Buchel...

Hi,

I don't agree completely. When a unit is on deployment with 12 a/c, they still fly some missions (6 to 12) on an average day. Bear in mind that there are a total of about 60 a/c at Spang, so when 24 are gone, it's less then half of it...

But indeed, my option (and what we always do) is to combine it for example with either Ramstein (be there early and go to Spang during afternoon), or Novernich (go to Spang in the morning and Norvenich on your way back).

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I will drop by Spang next week...

At least from my personal viewpoint, you will have a "full house" at Spang by late May 2008. Currently, elements of the 81st FS are deployed as 81st EFS with ten or twelve A-10s for OEF to Bagram AB, Afghanistan, and elements of the 23rd FS are deployed as 23rd EFS with twelve F-16s for OIF to Balad AB, Iraq. Both Expeditionary Fighter Squadrons are deployed as part of USAF´s AEF 1/2 (Cycle 7) rotation (January – April 2008). From late January to late February 2008, the 52nd FW swapped their F-16 fighter packages at Balad AB. Both are a mix of 22nd FS and 23rd FS aircraft.

Anybody who can verify all serial numbers of Spang "Hogs" currently deployed to Bagram AB?

Hi JJ,

As said before, the first hogs will arrive back home late next week. I will have someone there during their arrival  so I can confirm serials on arrival then.

Please note that the A-10s are on a 60 day deployment and the F-16s on a 90 day deployment (that's what I've been told at least  ).

Bye,
Oscar

Sorry, Oscar 01! But please understand: Meanwhile, all USAF fighter/attack aircraft packages (like F-15Es, F-16s and A-10s) are on scheduled 120-day (four-month) OIF/OEF combat deployments - all related to curent USAF´s AEF cycle rotations! Which "Hogs" you will greet at Spang late next week?
