Experiences with Tokina lenses

Saw a nice Tokina 80-400 lens. As I am looking for a bigger lens i'm very interested in such a lens but i have no experience with Tokina lenses. I'm planning to try to rent one and test it out. But are there any members here that have any kind of Tokina lens, and maybe willing to share some experiences with me.

Hmm looks like i'm in a little group if it comes to using a Tokina lens.

Bought it yesterday and today i tested it at Schiphol. After a view pictures i already was very pleased with the lens. Autofocus was quick. The lens is not that heavy. Only the tripodmount is in the way when you want to turn to zoom in an out. Fixed that by turning it a bit so that the mount was at the right side and you have more room to operate the lens.

Diafragma wheel at the mounting point of the lens can be secured so that it won't turn. Encountered that problem today, little bit of panic but the D50 manual gave a solution off what the problem was and a fix was made.

My opinion is that you really get what you're paid for with this lens. There are not much lenses in the 80-400 range.

Big plus for this one.

just to name a few, not what I call 'not much', as you got 4 lenses to choose from when you are using Canon or Nikon (the majority)

Actually only three... Try to buy a 80-400OS from Sigma with Nikon mount. It is impossible to find one...

Would be nice to see some pics from the Tokina.

@SpotterNL. If you see the difference in price you see what i mean. And that Canon 100-400 will be a no go for Nikon so a wrong comparison in my book.

You said 'not a lot of choice in the 80-400 range', you didn't say anything about price or make, just the range'

We can keep arguing about it, but what does it matter.
