Some old 80's pics of Volkel AB
Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

Some old 80's pics of Volkel AB
Given the succes of the old pictures of Soesterberg, I opened this thread for Volkel pictures.
Not that I was a frequent spotter allong the fence at Volkel AB, but I came across these pictures. I remember biking from Utrecht to a place near the airbase wher I stayed with relatives in order to go to the airbase.
I had a Pentax MG with a fixed 135mm F2.5 and a cheap converter. This shows on some of the pics, but gives a nice authentic old look. The date is 10 august 1983
Have fun and feel free to add.
a four-ship of 312 sqn: the took of in pairs.
Here you see the quality of the lenses (converter) these times.
And two Mirage III's that were visiting that day.
That's it from me....

Ahh....I already liked the Soesterberg topic, but since I've been living near Volkel all my life, I can't wait to see some old shots.
I'm sure I missed a lot in my younger years. Below you'll find some really old pictures I took in my early years as spotter. During the CF-104 rotation I was only 8 years old
Unfortunately the quality is very bad, so srry for that. Hope you like them.
In the eighties the Test Groep KLu used this F-16 as a testbed.
Two of the CF-104's present at the squadron rotation in 1985.
CT-133 visiting during the rotation with CF-104's.
Mohawk of the US Army performing a fly by in 1987.
Two Jaguars taking off during an exercise in 1989.
These Zweibruchen Phantoms were also present that time.
Well, maybe in the near future I will scan some more/better pictures of this period.
Look forward to see all the pictures is this topic.
Best regards, Rob.

Ah, I remember my first 'Spottersdag' very well. The weather was once again not-so-perfect, but even that had its advantages for the photos. Date is 22oct81.
Some more tomorrow...
