Danish Merlin Fleet

Post by Herby »

Eskadrille 722 obviously has to terminate it‘s transport, support and other flights not connected with SAR missions. This should be done due to a shortage of available EH101 Merlin Mk.512 helicopters and crews. This wrote Colonel Hans Kristian Skovsmore, Commanding Officer of Helicopter Wing at Karup, to the Wings crews and soldiers some days ago. The Flyvevåbnet itself advices to stand down any kind of NATO helicopter readiness, whatever this could mean.

During the past years there was also a shortage of available Eskadrille 721 C-130J and Cl.604 aircrafts.

Time will tell how this problems could be overcomed.

In the article also the spare part situation is mentioned as a problem. With less then half of the fleet presumably only 6-7 Merlin are active at the moment. Hopefully the Chief of Flyvevåbnet knows, that there are only 14 helicopters in the inventory.

Pretty sure they will opt for more MH-60's in next years... and soon they will start the search for Fennec replacement.
