AirVG airshow in Croatia in May: An opportunity to see Croatian Rafales for the first time, MiG-21s for the last time.
As Obris.org reported yesterday, at the session of the Croatian Government, a decision was made to accept the sponsorship of the 3rd AIRVG air show, which would be organized in May at the International Airport "dr. Franjo Tuđman''.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ivan Anušić stated at the meeting that the city of Velika Gorica, in cooperation with the signatories of the Charter of Friendship, plans to hold the third AIRVG air show on May 11, 2024.
Anušić added that the emphasis of the air show is on the modernization of the Croatian civil and military aviation, especially in the form of the arrival of the Rafale multipurpose fighter jet in Croatia. He added that the flight and exhibition program would feature aero clubs from Croatia and abroad, and that up to 50,000 visitors are expected at the event.
It should be emphasized that the venue for this year's AirVG has been changed, the last AirVG was organized on May 19, 2018, at the location of the Aviation Technical Institute (ZTZ) in Velika Gorica, where it was also held in 2017.
It is to be expected that at AirVG 2024 we will most likely be able to publicly see for the first time the multipurpose Rafal fighter planes of the Croatian Air Force, which some Croatian media say will arrive on April 25 (6 planes, 4 single-seaters and two two-seaters for which the handover has already taken place in France). In addition, it is possible that this event will be the last opportunity for the general public to see up close the MiG-21 fighter-interceptors, which may be retired this year.

AIRVG is back!
After a full 6-year hiatus, the AIRVG air-show is coming back! At today's 294th session, the government accepted the sponsorship of this aviation event, which will take place in less than two months. Minister of Defense Ivan Anušić, in his explanation before members of the Government, announced the air show itself, as well as the change of venue:
"The city of Velika Gorica, in cooperation with the signatories of the Charter of Friendship, plans to hold the third AIRVG aero-meeting at Dr. Franjo Tuđman International Airport on May 11, 2024. The emphasis at the aero-meeting is on the modernization of Croatian civil and military aviation, especially in the form of the arrival of the Rafale multi-purpose fighter jet in Croatia and the Croatian Air Force, and it is expected that aero-clubs from Croatia and abroad will also present themselves at the air-show program. Since the Charter of Friendship of the city of Velika Gorica includes, among others, the Croatian Air Force, the International Airport, the Croatian Air Navigation Control and the Aviation Technical Center, and for the sake of publicity for calls for military pilots and aviation technicians, it is proposed to accept the sponsorship of the Government of the Republic of Croatia over holding this event where up to 50,000 visitors are expected. By accepting patronage, the Government does not assume financial obligations".
So, unlike the first and second AIRVG, held long ago in 2017 and 2018, which were held on the meadow in front of the ZHTC, this year's third edition of the Veliko Gorica aviation meeting will be held at Pleso Airport. There is no doubt that Dassault Rafale fighter jets, as well as UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, will be presented to the public on this occasion. In addition to HRZ aircraft, the Ministry of the Interior will also present its aviation and flying opus, which is also expecting new Subaru Bell 412EPX helicopters soon.
Great interest in another AIRVG
Both editions of the AIRVG air-show, the only one of its kind in the Zagreb area, aroused great interest from the audience, but both were timed for the Ministry of Defense's acquisition of a new fighter plane. That is why, with the failure of the procurement of the F-16 Barak aircraft, this air-show also failed, unfortunately. In the meantime, many things happened, among others the most important thing - the acquisition of a new fighter plane, so the organizers decided to revive AIRVG. Since the arrival of the Rafale fighter jets is expected on April 25, there is no doubt that on Saturday, May 11, a huge crowd of aviation enthusiasts and the interested public will flock to Pleso and enjoy the renewed edition of AIRVG. Perhaps it will also be an opportunity to send the MiG-21 aircraft from the HRZ into history with dignity and gratitude for their decades of service.

- We invite those interested in this event to follow all the information on the airvg.info website, where they will publish all the instructions for visitors about the AIRVG2024 event. First of all, due to meeting safety standards, the number of visitors is limited, and free entrance tickets will be available through the online service from May 2, which we will inform about via the website and social networks - say the organizers of the third Veliko Gorica air show.

According to the information we received, the program is not yet known, but for now it is confirmed that the Storm Wings aerobatic group and MiG-21 fighters will take part in it , which will also be a farewell to the HRZ

Re: AirVG Zagreb 11-5-24
According to a Q&A here there will be no rehearsals (which seems odd), no participant arrivals on Friday and no Mi-171 flying demo. There is this schedule as well for Saturday.

Re: AirVG Zagreb 11-5-24
They said the rehearsals will take place, but not at the airport. Also static aircraft will be towed from the military area on Saturday. But it’s not said when they will arrive in Zagreb.

Mig-21UMD 167 was visible next to the new Rafale hangars (seen from bus Z290). One PC-9 landed just after the opening of the static.

Re: AirVG Zagreb 11-5-24
Also 33 black (ukrainian An32) was seen outside the platform and another Ukrainian An32 was seen inside the old hangar (seen from my seat on board the flight back home). This was a short window to see, but it was most likely one of the 2 ex croatian an32s, with clearly the ukrainian roundel on the tail. No number read sadly
While waiting for the gates to open (around 10:30) 2 OH-58s and a B206 (603) departed seemingly to Lucko.
As the B206 was read as 603, which was the same one that performed the demo later, I expect the OH-58s were also the 322 and 332, but I wasn't able to read them as the pics through the window were too unclear
3 Rafales were seen in the hangars:
Hangar 1: 152
Hangar 2: 171
Hangar 3: Nose of a single seater
