This airfield had been rather busy today with lots of movements on ADSB during the day. We spent a couple of hours in the approach between 1800-2000.

During the Paris airshow (3 weeks ago), I read E169 F-UHRX with code 6 !!
So I still think E169 should be correct. The difference between an Y and X is not that big.

As you might know the nose door opens to the left hand side, so that is unachievable from this angle...

So I still think E169 should be correct. The difference between an Y and X is not that big.

The thing with these civil regs and mil regs is they always match and don't change. E.g., F-UHRX belongs to E169 and F-UHRY belongs to E170. However, the codes (1,2,3 etc.) can change even during a show weekend at the same location the show is held. So a code read a month ago doesn't provide much certainty.

Strictly these aren't civilian registrations, but I know what you mean. For several years now all French Air Force and Army aircraft have fixed 'registrations' of this format, which don't change, as you say. They are seen on Alpha Jets, A400s, A330s and the like and, for things like Rafales, the last two are the last two of the code so, for example, 125/30-GD, if it moves to another unit, will now keep the GD part.
