La Direction de la maintenance aéronautique (DMAé) a notifié,
le marché IROISE consacré au Maintien en condition opérationnelle (MCO)
des moteurs Tyne équipant les avions Atlantique 2 (ATL2)
du ministère des Armées à la société SAFRAN AIRCRAFT ENGINES, pour une durée de 18 ans.

France has awarded Safran Aircraft Engines a contract to provide maintenance services
for the French Navy’s Atlantique 2 (ATL2) long-range maritime patrol aircraft.
Under the 18-year agreement, the company will modernize the Tyne engines of the service’s ATL2 fleet.
The program will be carried out
as part of the French Aeronautical Maintenance Department’s collective “maintenance in operational condition” initiative to meet evolving requirements.
Once upgraded, the aging Tyne engines will continue to operate in-service until the ATL2s are decommissioned.
Maritime Patrol Revamp
In 2022, Dassault Aviation delivered two refurbished ATL2s to the French Navy as part of a 2013 modernization contract.
Another 18 upgraded ATL2 units are expected to be shipped to the navy by 2024.
Also called IROISE contract, the latest award requires Safran Aircraft Engines
to work as the new service provider for a period of next 18 years.
The company will provide maintenance in operational condition (MCO) for the ageing Tyne engines equipped with the ATL2 fleet.
Tyne turboprop was developed by Rolls-Royce in the 1950s
to equip the French Navy’s Atlantique 2 fleet as well as other aircraft,
such as Transall C-160 military transport aircraft.
According to the Ministry of the Armed Forces,
the latest IROISE contract will allow them
to meet the availability objectives for the old engines at a very high level
and continue supporting the fleet until ATL2’s scheduled retirement from the French Navy’s fleet.
