A Russian AF Sukhoi Su-25 fighter plane was shot down by Ukrainian armed forces in Luhansk region.
Apparently the pilot did not survive the crash.

Apparently, another high-ranking Russian, major general Kanamat Botasjov was killed in the Su25 shootdown mentioned above. This comes from the BBC Russian Service. Can’t find the link but was also referred to in the blog of Dutch newspaper Telegraaf.

Here is a link to an article about that Su-25 crash with a general as the pilot. Apparently, it was an already retired Major-General. In the last paragraphs it is noted that he was kicked out because he flew a Su-27 without having the type rating for it... and then crashed it. And before that, he also flew a Su-34 without type rating. Makes you wonder, did anybody knew he was even flying in Ukraine now...? Anyway, Major-Generals flying combat sorties, not exactly something you hear about very often.

The anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have shot down Russia’s Su-34 bomber aircraft in Kharkiv Region.
The relevant statement was made by the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“At about 10:00 a.m., June 12, 2022, the anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine hit Russia’s Su-34 fighter-bomber aircraft near Izium, Kharkiv Region,” the report states.

The aircraft crashed in the temporarily occupied area. Information about pilots is yet to be checked.

In addition, on June 12, 2022, the Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners destroyed Russia’s Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicle, and the Ukrainian combat aircrafts completed several air missions, launching air strikes on the positions of Russian occupation forces. As a result, an enemy rocket and artillery ammunition depot was destroyed.
