AIRBUS says it will stop making its A340 long-haul four-engine aircraft, which has failed to match Boeing's 777.
"We have accepted reality. We have not sold any A340s for nearly two years," Airbus finance director Hans Peter Ring said during a presentation on the third-quarter results of Airbus parent company EADS.

Re: Airbus dumps A340 after poor sales
Can they give the unsold units to me? Seriously though, that's quite a drawback for the company.

They have two. The two A345 that were originally ordered by Kingfisher. These have never been delivered.

A too high price for the airplane A 340 asked ? Or too high expectations from the beginning ? Or as result of continius delays in delivery ? Could be a combination of all those mentioned.

Huh? The plane was in production since the early nineties. That is about 20 years with a couple hundreds delivered. It had its run and was successful. Too high expectations.... what nonsense
What? Continued delays in delivery? Do you even know what type of plane you are talking about?angel77 wrote:Or as result of continius delays in delivery ?
Simple reason is, the A340 has been overtaken by better planes and will soon be replaced by a new generation or Airbus planes (the A350) and A330s which share the production line are more profitable than A340s, so the line is now dedicated to the A330. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you are looking for a reason for the discontinuation of the A340 production: think "4 engines" compared to "2 engines" with the same range and payload...
