Leeuwarden 2011 15 september - Spottersday

Re: Leeuwarden 2011 15 september - Spottersday
How about Dutch spotters that live abroad and who are (no longer) a member of a Dutch spottersgroup? Will these be able to visit the spottersday?
Two years ago at Volkel it was possible that Dutch "foreigners" also visited the spottersday.

Reinier

@Wannes, do you think we don't want you over here because 1 person or maybe 2 said that to you?
I don't care if there are dutch people or foreign people.. So don't blame it on all the dutch spotters..
That's what we call sweeping generalization or in dutch overhaaste generalisatie!

This is getting rather off-topic, fit for "Tattle Lounge".wannes wrote:It's always the same , many dutch spotters going around europe for spottersdays , in holland no other countries are allowed , i think i have a chat with some friends of keebee for the future , see wath we can do about it
You may find that it is mostly certain Dutch military authorities who are to blame for above-mentioned restrictions...
Past "Pre Open Day spotter events" were mostly organised by the local spotter society, only supported by the absolute bare minimum of Dutch military personnel...
Yes, cost savings are a huge priority in Holland!
The Tiger Meet 2010 at Volkel was a perfect example. LOTS of local spotters organising, supporting and/or executing the Spotter Days, with only a handful of military personnel present...
In Belgium, Germany and France the functions of these civil volunteers would mostly have been done by Air Force people...
Also: keep in mind that vetting mostly Dutch spotters is far more easily accomplished than doing the same with hundreds of foreign nationals. Limiting the event to mostly Dutch citizens means less hours spent by military intelligence personnel.
And: delegating the applicants administrative procedure and payments to spotters societies means the military doesn't have to do it themselves. Saving personnel...
Limiting the applicants to mostly members of these organisations means that not many "unknown newcomers (i.e. possible "trouble-makers/activists" who have to vetted out) " will come to this event,
with the added benefit that these spotters organisations will already have most applicants in their database for newsletters, etc.

You can only participate on the spotterday if you are a member of a dutch spotter group. So what's the reason for a "ban" ?Stratofreighter wrote: You may find that it is mostly certain Dutch military authorities who are to blame for above-mentioned restrictions...

Re: Leeuwarden 2011 15 september - Spottersday
Keep in mind this spotters's day is probably mostly targeted to Dutch spotters who would have come to the arrivals' day anyway, whether there will be a an organised spotter day or not. And Dutch spotters are not easily deterred or moved on by their own police force. You can only participate on the spotterday if you are a member of a dutch spotter group. So what's the reason for a "ban" ?
In 2004 things even became rather ugly during arrivals' day. At least one arrest, and LOTS of complaints by spotters to Dutch military police...
If you have most of the local or at least Dutch "hardcore photography fanatics" inside your own fences you will have less problems keeping the outside approaches "safe" for local car traffic and the like.
A smaller crowd outside is more easily controlled, not to speak of the compact-size group of people who are limited to the boundaries of the spotter area on-base.
I think the authorities would mostly want to be able to control the inevitable crowd on arrivals day. A spotters' day organised by enthusiasts is a good way of doing this.

As you can see from this topic:

Aviation Group Leeuwarden has come up with a possibility for a limited number of foreign spotters to attend. They DO NOT have to be members of a Dutch spotting group but are drawn at random from the number of foreign applicants. AGL is trying to get the most out of it for everybody, but given the limits set by the RNLAF there's only so much they can do and they will most likely not be able to keep everybody happy.
Let's therefore please keep the discussion as factual and -above all- as correct as possible, nobody said anything about a "ban". Unfortunately, we all have to work within the framework of opportunities given by Air Force authorities, even if that means that rules in one country are much more strict than in other countries. It's as Stratofreighter says, during NTM 2010 at Volkel all nationalities were welcome in force, but this year at Leeuwarden, there are only limited possibilities, whether we like it or not; please keep in mind that the RNLAF is under no obligation whatsoever to allow entry before the Open Days... shouldn't we be grateful for whatever they are willing to offer us?

Exactly Crizz.Crizz wrote:And why is that the be exact? I am organizing this along with the RNLAF.i'm just very disappointed to the guys who arrenged tis spottersday
If I could make all the rules, I would allow as many as possible, but I can't. The RNLAF ma de them and I respect those.
Instead of shouting, be glad that air forces and air bases still allow and create such events for us spotters and photographers.
Nowadays people are getting very greedy and dont respect any kind of rule they have to respect.

Let me say a word of thanks to those people who organized this spotter-day. I know how many hours of valuable time is spend to get this organized.
Thank you guys for giving this opportunity.
Let's hope the weather will be on our side.
