About this forum - READ BEFORE CONTINUING !

This is not a regular Scramble Message Board sub-forum, but a special platform to host an initiative by user Tomba2247:
 a forum where photos must go through screening before being admitted.
The aim is to get the best photographic results, even - or perhaps especially - from 'regular' scenes, in terms of shooting technique and post-processing.

The following images by Tom illustrate what he is looking for:

To keep matters from getting complicated, this forum is technically no different from others.
Therefore, we need everyone to play by the rules as stated above, under Forum Rules:
Do not post photos yourself, but leave that to Tom and send him your links for screening.
In other words, host your photos on some server as usual (look here for help) and provide Tom with the links, either via email or private message (both accessible in Tom's profile).

Participating here has no consequences for your options elsewhere on the message board. For instance, if a photo would be rejected here, it can still be posted in a regular Scramble photo forum.

Please be aware of the following:
- Participation here is entirely voluntary, but only possible according the above rules. As those rules are quite simple, the measure against posts violating them is simple as well: they will be deleted.
- This forum is on trial basis for the time, but the formula stays the way it is. There is no use arguing about that. We retained all existing Scramble Message Board forums and possibilities.

Enjoy!
Erik

Here are Tom's own motivations and the background:

tomba2247:

I'd like to explain the meaning of this new Scramble sub forum.
Here at Scramble you usually find two different kinds of people.
1. the ones who want to shoot for the numbers and take a "spotterpic" (usually cropped nose/tail and exactly from a 90 degree angle)
2. the ones who want to take an aviation related picture, which could be arty-farty, or backlit, or what ever way you want it processed.
Scramble is made for the first group of people. That is great, it's what made Scramble to what it is today. A great place to hang out and check for info or news or pictures.

With this new Scramble sub forum I want to offer the second group an opportunity to post their "non spotter" pictures and be creative in what they like to do, being: taking beautiful aviation related pictures. This will prevent clogging the usual forum and gives the fastly growing second group a chance to post without bumping into any obstacles.
We want to post your pictures after a low entry-level screening. This means 99% will be posted online. It's possible for everyone to post their pictures here.
It is not about the equipment you use but more about; what is your motivation to take that picture.
You can see it as a group of people with all sorts of skill levels who want to help each other by giving positive feedback. You can be critical offcourse, just explain why and if possible, give suggestions how to change or improve things.  I personaly experienced that it is really nice to get some help from someone who has more skills/knowledge and am really great full for this. This will hopefully trigger people to start posting their stuff. Off-course, you do not have to comment if you don't want to. Just enjoy is good enough .

This is how it works:
1. Send me a personal message or email at the following address tom@looklightstudio.nl with your [img]TAG just like you normally do when posting pictures in a topic at Scramble. So if you want to post 5 pictures, please include 5 TAG lines. Please include location and date. Your pictures (if possible accompanied by comments, it's totally up to you) are more than welcome.

2. After checking your pictures i will put them online with your comments added and at the top your name, and as a title your location and date string.
3. Please use the "Post Reply" button to give your comments like you normally do.

My wish is to create a positive environment where everyone treats each-other with respect and everyone feels free to post.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I'll gladly answer them.
Have fun! :)

Tom

Hé Tom,

Is it possible that you can explain us, in detail, the steps you took in developing the Emirates picture.

I would like to learn from your workflow in either Photoshop or Lightroom and I think others might be interested to.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

René.

Although we set the end of the evalution period for this forum to the end of May, Tomba and the moderators already came to the conclusion the screened photo forum has not brought us what we hoped for. We are definitely not sorry we tried, but apparently there is no 'market' for such a forum on our message board. Therefore, we will close this subforum in about a week.

Thanks to all who have contributed in a constructive manner  and special thanks to Tom, who was willing to put quite some energy in something new at Scramble.

Just thought of something
Is it a idea to start a photo critique section?
For persons that would like to improve there camera/editing skills?
But I think it would be nice if we could help each other out getting better photographers by giving and or receiving constructive criticism.
I have no idea if there is a "market"( ) for here on scramble for it.
Let me know what you think...

You have a good point there Lars, but I think that's the principle of the 'regular' photo forum (or at least it should be IMO): giving/receiving criticism. And that's much more valuable than the meaningless 'nice pics', which you can find after each and every photo on the forum.

Well gents, we have the regular Photo forums, in which feedback to posted photos can be given to any chosen level of detail, and we have the Photography forum in which photography matters in every sense can be discussed.
As a matter of fact, what you suggest is already happening. In my experience, this happens usually after an invitation/request from the photographer. It is also my experience that when we get further into the matter, attention quickly disappears and the topic goes asleep.

Combining the above, I do not think another photography forum is very useful.

As announced before, this forum is now closed. It will remain visible for some time, to enjoy the images that have been posted.
