Fokker 50 prototype scans

Post by Rene Klok »

Today I was scanning my F-27 and Fokker 50 slides. I hadn't seen them for many years and after scanning the Fokker 50 prototype PH-OSO I noticed some differences I had not seen before (or maybe I had but I
had forgotten about it). The prototype was basically built from a standard F-27 fuselage and thus was configured with the oval windows; well at least on the right side. The windows on the left side were
rectangular Fokker 50 examples. However a few years later the left side suddenly also sported standard F-27 type windows.
Can somebody tell me why this change was made?

Nice historic shots!

She always sported the oval F27 windows. The Fokker 50 windows were painted on. I guess that later in her career the paint was removed and so you could see that she sported F27 style windows.

Before I could finish my message some other Erwin came with a very good answer already :D
All I wanted to say is that the Fokker 50 style Windows were on the other side as well: check this picture.

PH-OSI also sported an F27 fuselage as you can see here

She was later repainted with F50 style windows, just like OSO, for display at that awfull place at LEY....

Thank you to both Erwin's for solving the ''mystery'' so quickly.

No paint but stickers with proper shading. I believe it was the most important reason the aircraft wasn't available for close inspection initially
The third shot is also nice. The red locations were the positions for the drag reduction program. Lots of testing and no modifications afterwards.

Nice shot.

If I am correct PH-DMO was the first Fokker 50 up to production standard. So she was the first with the new window layout.

She still active as a freighter I believe.

If I remember well (yes I am too lazy now to look it up) therefore this is the first F27 Mk050. The -OSO/-OSI were registered as F27-Mk500F
