A Sriwijaya Air jetliner was forced to cancel its flight after it hit a bird just before taking off at Radin Inten Airport in Bandar Lampung, Lampung, on Friday morning, tempointeraktif.com has reported.
The Boeing 737-200 jet was about to take off for Jakarta when the crews and the passengers heard a sound of explosion, which was immediately followed with the plane tilting on one side, at around 10:00 a.m..
Pilot Heryawan decided to cancel the take-off. Later, a team from the airlines found a burnt remain of a bird inside the jet engine after a 20-minute check.
“It's confirmed that the small explosion was caused by the bird,” airport head Dharmadji said. “But there wasn't any serious damage,” he added.
The plane later took off at 11:00 a.m. carrying 111 passengers.
