Log France (and Belgium) August/September 2008 part 2

Post by jza »

On the 3rd day of our non-spotting holiday we went to the coast.

Aix-les-Milles 31-08-2008:

01/F-AZNA………………...N2504……………………….Stored

Marseille – Marignane 31-08-2008:

???..........................................C-130……………………….all white (United Arabic Emirates?)

73…………………………...DHC-8 ………………………Securite Civile
F-ZBPS……………………..EC-145………………………Securite Civile
The C-130 was standing at the North West side, near the Cargo area. I was unable to come close enough to read him. All I know is that it was there for at least 4 days. I hope anyone has read it?

Vitrolles – Lycee P. Mendes-France 31-08-2008:

453/13-QA………………….Mirage IIIE
This is the only plane that is visible from outside. To see it, take the street left from the entrance of the school and then the first street to the right (after the BP petrolstation).
When you take the first parkingspot at the right you see the Mirage in front of you.
As we visited this place on a Sunday the school was closed.

Saint Victoret 31-08-2008:

???..........................................Alouette II
This is “the famous heli at the roundabout without a known serial”. Or is there a serial known already?

F-ZBBV/46…………………CL215
F-ZBDG…………………….Alouette III
The 2 frames are outside near the Police Municipal station. We didn’t see the other planes that should be in a museum there, as we didn’t search for it.

Istres – Le Tube 31-08-2008:

SB042………………………Su-30………………………..India
SB046………………………Su-30………………………..India
SB048………………………Su-30………………………..India
SB049………………………Su-30………………………..India
SB107………………………Su-30………………………..India
SB109………………………Su-30………………………..India
SB110………………………Su-30………………………..India
SB115………………………Su-30………………………..India
K2661………………………Il-76…………………………India
RK3453…………………….Il-78…………………………India
RK3454…………………….Il-78…………………………India
147/CM……………………..Mystere IIC
01…………………………...Mirage 50M
We were surprised to see a large tail that was for sure not a KC-135. After looking for the right spot, we saw the big Indian planes. When we drove a bit further we saw also the tails of the SU-30’s. The planes came from the Red Flag exercise in the USA and were supposed to stop at Mont de Marsan. As they should leave at early Monday morning, it was a lucky shot to visit Istres in the weekend! Apart from the Indian planes not much was seen.

Castellane 1-9-2008:

According the EMOOS a CM170 should be present in the Musee de la Resistance.
But it isn’t present anymore, and a woman at the museum didn’t know anything from the presence of the plane either. It wasn’t a big problem as we came in Castellane after visiting de Grand Canyon du Verdon.

Marseille – Marignane 2-09-2008:

726………………………….Super Puma…………………Saudi Arabie
…/8-JR……………………...Cougar……………………...Armee de l’air (grijs)
???...........................................EC-725…………………….Securite Civile/Eurocopter
We hoped to see something new at Eurocopter. And it turned out to be good, although it could be better. There were many choppers outside, the Bulgarian and Saudi’s were readable.
The Armee de l’air Cougar made a flight, but I couldn’t read the F- registration.

Thanks Erik! And a lot more to follow! ;-)

If someone wants more detailed info: I used a GPS tracker, so I have Google Earth overlays from all the places I visited.
